Re: Fury claims that Joshua is finished as a fighter !
Anthony Joshua is a top-five heavyweight, regardless of whatever happens in the rematch against Ruiz Jr. If he suffers another heavy punishing defeat to the Mexican, then he may find it almost impossible to become the top-dog in the division ever again.
However, he could continue achieving a certain amount of success, but after earning $200m+ during the course of his career, would he possess the sufficient desire to continue competing if he was forced to become a perennial contender for all of his future bouts, coupled with competing in smaller venues, receiving smaller purses, gaining less media exposure etc.?
Ruiz Jr. also provided a blueprint to defeat AJ, which other fighters may attempt to exploit in the near future, since it’ll be almost impossible for the Brit to reinvent himself to start employing a completely different fighting style.
Even if AJ avenges the Ruiz Jr. loss, his aura of invincibility has almost certainly disappeared, and he is likely to find it much more difficult to overcome the sort of fighters that he may have previously beaten with ease.
Anthony Joshua can comeback from this defeat (as we previously witnessed with Lewis & Klitschko), but he needs to make changes, because as the old adage goes: “Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” is pure idiocy!

Fury says a lot of crap. That's his MO as a personality. The Mouth that Poured.
Nobody knows where Joshua stands. He's young, and hasn't taken much punishment in his career. The smart money would argue that he still has plenty left in the tank. Physically.
Where he stands mentally is a mystery. I always felt that Joshua isn't blessed with a ton of self confidence. A little unsure of who he is inside and outside the ring.
Did the KO loss damage Joshua's mental makeup irreparably? Is he shattered? Will he now fight tentatively? Scared?
I don't know. We'll all have to wait and see. Just like Fury, who owns no crystal ball or special talent in forecasting the future fortunes of his rival countryman.

Possibly
AJ clearly lacks heart. A second KO loss will finish him. He doesn't seem the sort who is gonna knuckle down, improve, adapt his style etc and bounce back.

Of course he is -- he is as shattered by this as Foreman was by the Ali fight.
Based on this, Joshua will be back to fight in some pretty epic battles with the top of the division. But he'll retire after about 3 years.
But 10 years after that, he'll unretire, and about 7 years later win the title back. Joshua will be the oldest HW champ at 49!

Sometimes fighters lose something to their game when they get beaten. Other fighters will now fancy their chances more against AJ and the Ruiz fight just highlighted that AJ isn't a natural boxer, his punch resistance is now in question and so is his stamina. If Ruiz beats him again it will put AJ in a very difficult position. I wouldn't write him off yet but its certainly put a few question marks over him.

He isn't particularly finished, but will he still be able to develop?
Re: Fury claims that Joshua is finished as a fighter !
I know it's kind of just an expression, but Anthony Joshua did not have an "aura of invincibility" to lose. He wasn't '87 Tyson to begin with.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑14 Jun 2019, 07:19 Even if AJ avenges the Ruiz Jr. loss, his aura of invincibility has almost certainly disappeared, and he is likely to find it much more difficult to overcome the sort of fighters that he may have previously beaten with ease.

It might just be one of Fury's mindgames against AJ.
Re: Fury claims that Joshua is finished as a fighter !
Against Ruiz he clearly didn't seem hungry or motivated. We would never be having this conversation if he'd have finished off Andy after the knockdown, but when the smaller man fought back with a vengeance, it was clear AJ wasn't mentally in the ring.

All this talk will be redundant when he wins the rematch and gets back on top.
He still beats Fury too.
He still beats Fury too.
Re: Fury claims that Joshua is finished as a fighter !
AJ was clearly “mentally in the ring” until The Champion of the World disrupted his mental capacity.
I don’t get it. AJ hit King Ruiz with repeated howitzers that would have stopped pretty much every man on Earth, with the possible exception of Parker and Helenius. They were not wild shots. They were on the button. The Mexican-American wolverine simply walked through them. Fury could not do that. Wilder could not do that.
The new Champion of the World relieved AJ of his senses.
Re: Fury claims that Joshua is finished as a fighter !
nobody really "knows " what happened against Ruiz.
what I do know is that Fury is full of crap

Re: Fury claims that Joshua is finished as a fighter !
AJ was previously considered as being the top-dog in the heavyweight division and was lavished with an awful lot of praise and hype from fight fans and the media.
Even though we all recognised his flaws, he would have been a huge betting favourite over all of his peers.
So whilst I concede your point, relating to the Brit having never been considered as being as unbeatable or as dominant as Tyson’s heyday, he did once possess an "aura of invincibility", even though it was admittedly to a far less degree than the reputation that ‘Iron’ Mike once enjoyed.
And to be fair, there are very few heavyweight fighters throughout the course of history that possessed the sort of "aura of invincibility" that Mike Tyson had in 1988.

What bothers me is the pathetic puzzled helpless look he had on his face, and then how unaturally happy he seemed afterwards. He couldn't stop smiling then.
Also what bothers me is it wasn't Povetkin who did it to him.

I'm undecided. He MAY be on to something but only time will tell.

Yes I agree with that especially the part about Fury and his propensity for talking shite.SenorPipino wrote: ↑14 Jun 2019, 08:17 Fury says a lot of crap. That's his MO as a personality. The Mouth that Poured.

I don't dislike him but it should always be recognized that nothing he says can be taken as a true representation of the truth, or even what he believes - more so in that what he says, and maybe believes, can be wildly different from day to day.
What concerns me about Joshua is that it's all about legacy. It has to be, not because he says so, but because he's wealthy beyond his dreams. So if Ruiz were to repeat the feat of embarrassing Joshua, then AJ might decide his ambitions are in tatters, his belts scattered (most probably), what's the point of continuing ?
Marvin Hagler made that famous remark about it being very hard to get up to do your roadwork when you're wearing silk pajamas. Could that sub-conscious thought-process already be at work within AJ ?

Just one word -motivation. It is not easy to explain, definitely.................candyslim wrote: ↑15 Jun 2019, 04:08 Yes I agree with that especially the part about Fury and his propensity for talking shite.

Nobody should ever take seriously what that pathological serial lying ped using drug cheat Tyson Fury (aka to some as the Gypsy King / lineal heavyweight champion of the world) says.
His close friends and family are no doubt similarly bewildered by his narcissistic manipulative shenanigans as the rest of us.
He once dressed up as Batman. It should have been the Joker.

Don't know, it is a possibility. But I also feel that Joshua down is one less obstacle Fury has to worry about. When it is all said and done, Fury could lose to Joshua, and maybe he knows it.
