Jason Welborn vs JJ Metcalf
For the vacant Commonwealth Super Welterweight title on the Warrington/Galahad card this Saturday on BT, I like this fight it's a step up for the unbeaten Metcalf who's looked good mostly whenever I've seen him but he's never fought anyone at all of note
I've always admired Welborn, tough honest pro who always gives his all, great to see him pick up the British title up at Middleweight, the fights with Langford were wars but it was his effort last time against Hurd that's really proved to how hard he is, he took the fight to him and wasnt overawed like some Brits who shall remain nameless, he just got creased with a wicked body shot which seems to be his Achilles, we seek Williams take the same approach against Hurd a few weeks ago and win
Its whether Metcalf can take that step up, no doubt Welborn will make him fight all the way, its whether Welborn can use his experience or he's too shopworn for the fresher Metcalf
On a whim I'm going for Metcalf in a close one, maybe even via body shot

Re: Jason Welborn vs JJ Metcalf
Called it in the OP
Nah not the most surprising finish for a Welborn fight, Metcalf was good though. boxed a controlled fight, you can see him wary of throwing his right hand, it was mostly jabs and hooks, he moved well used the ring ti good effect, Welborn could never really get into the fight, he did land some eye catching shots and a couple of the rounds he landed better punches but there just wasn't enough of them, Metcalf's constant movement troubled him all night, his jab was key, he jabbed the head off Welborn at times
You seen Metcalf trying to target the body but he wasn't really landing it clean, a few straying low, excellent finish though, gets a point off then delivers a wicked left to the body, Welborn never looked like carrying on even though he made the count

Did anyone see the fight?
I’ve only seen the result, Welborn stopped in 8.

Scrappy a few low blows each - Metcalf was just ahead and buckled him with body shot.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑20 Jun 2019, 15:34 Did anyone see the fight?

I thought Welborn might have old manned him/roughed him but would say he’s nearing end of his career now.

Didn't think it was that scrappy , Metcalf looked good to me behind a very nice jab .
