Re: Heavyweights : Greg Page vs. Earnie Shavers
I'd take Page in this bout. Too fast and boxes too good for Shavers.
Re: Heavyweights : Greg Page vs. Earnie Shavers
Page would have to fight perfectly as Shavers only needs that one shot. I'd lean towards Shavers.
Re: Heavyweights : Greg Page vs. Earnie Shavers
Shavers would won by KO in 7.
Page would won first six rounds)

Re: Heavyweights : Greg Page vs. Earnie Shavers
Page by stoppage anywhere from 6th to 8th rounds. As powerful as Shavers was, Page could get you with either hand. Outside of Cobb, Page and Tim Witherspoon would be the worst matchup for Earnie since both had strong chins. Greg would use that jab to cut Earnie up, floor him a couple of times, and win.
Re: Heavyweights : Greg Page vs. Earnie Shavers
I never saw page as a banger. I don't know if he had the power to stop shavers. Ron Lyle had one of the best chins ever and he was dropped by Shavers in their bout and later said that Shavers hit him the hardest.Nile4000 wrote: ↑15 Jun 2019, 21:53 Page by stoppage anywhere from 6th to 8th rounds. Watching his career, Greg had a strong right since his amateur days, and an underrated hook. He had enough power to make Earnie respect him. Not taking anything away from Ron, but Greg was a different animal.

I don't remember him taking out anyone but "past it" guys and tomato cans. I remember him as a second tier HW.

Just curious, anyone page didn't lose to that you'd pick to beat him?Nile4000 wrote: ↑15 Jun 2019, 21:53 Page by stoppage anywhere from 6th to 8th rounds. Re: Heavyweights : Greg Page vs. Earnie Shavers
Depends which Greg Page showed up.
I like an interview Holmes did in the 80s when he was asked if he'd fight Page or Coetzee next and he said: "Put all their names in a hat and pick one. They're all the same." There's a bit of truth to that.
As promising as the WBA title holders could have been, they were either incomplete pros in their skill sets or they just didn't mentally or emotionally have what it took to truly be special.
His peak? 1982-1986 give or take. He went 8-6 in that time frame. Losses to Witherspoon, Bey, Tubbs, Douglas and the unheralded Mark Wills (5-5-1). A wildly inconsistent heavyweight. Far from reliable.
He had a heck of a chin. I'll give him that. It'd go the full 10, 12, or 15. But I think Earnie, especially the one who fought Holmes, would win.

Honestly, after 84, Williams, Tucker, possibly Thomas. At his best, grudgingly Holmes and Dokes, if Page's focus wasn't right.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑16 Jun 2019, 05:12 Just curious, anyone page didn't lose to that you'd pick to beat him?
