Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
Super-middleweight champion champion Zach Parker (18-0) has relinquished his British belt.
Derbyshire's Parker is ranked in the top-10 with three of the four governing bodies - WBA #7, IBF #9, WBO #6 - so it's likely he has a world-ranking fight on the horizon instead.
Commonwealth super-middleweight champion Lerrone Richards (12-0) is likely to have his name thrown in the hat to fight for the now vaant Lonsdale title, as would current English champion Darryl Williams (17-1), who many thought did enough to beat Parker in their November 2018 British title fight. However, Parker edged him on a split decision to become champion.

Why vacate ? Pointless.
Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
Williams deserved another shot, people will say Parker ducked the rematch.

Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
He's ranked WBA #7, IBF #9, WBO #6
He probably thinks BJS, Ryder, Cal Smith may fight him as a voluntary?
Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
I really wanted to see a rematch.
It was a close one, and could see a rematch going either way.
Don't know about any ducking, but maybe Parker is being protected?
I definitely think both of them did learn from their fight and it would serve them well to do it again.

My money would be on Parker in a rematch, but he was clearly injured in the fight and got a bit of help from the judges.KiwiRider wrote: ↑14 Jun 2019, 15:13 I really wanted to see a rematch.

Having a decent ranking is no reason to avoid the rematch. A victory over Williams won't exactly drop him out of the rankings will it?
I am curious as to who they are going to put him in with, though.I can't see Sauerland putting one of their better prospects in with Smith or sending him to America to fight Dirrell or Plant.
Maybe they expect Bjs or Canelo to vacate and we could see Ryder vs Parker for either the WBO or WBA (reg) in the near future.
Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
This might be a silly question but can you hold the British title as well as a world title?Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑14 Jun 2019, 13:38 He's ranked WBA #7, IBF #9, WBO #6

Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
I’m sure you can. But when a boxer challenges for a world title, they tend to vacate the regional belt(s) before the fight.
Who’s gonna wanna defend the BrItish or Euro belt, against Brit/Euro level comp when you defend a world title and get higher purses and more exposure

Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
I believe that in order to challenge for a world title then you have to first vacate the British (so if you lose the world title fight then you are also no longer British champion).
Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
You dont have to vacate to fight for the world title, and you can lose at for a title atteh same weight and remain british champ (ie ryan walsh losing for european but staying as british champ.)
Usualy if someone vacates its because they have a mandatory they can not skip by without being stripped so vacate as its easier.

It’s like Ritson didn’t vacate his BrItish belt to challenge Patera for the Euro.

Lerrone Richards vs Darryll Williams should be called

I agree.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑15 Jun 2019, 06:21 BrItish and Euro is not world.

I don’t have a link or anything but I am pretty confident that in order to challenge for a World title then you firstly need to relinquish the British title.
Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
Tom langford won the british
Then fought for the world interim title v kurtzidhe ( i know its interrim but all same rules apply)
Lost the fight then defended the british afterwards.
There is no rule sayin you have to relenquish the british to challenge for the world title anywhere. Most people do because of circumstances but as in the example above and iv no doubt there are many others there is no rule saying it has to be done.

Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
Howard Winstone was british champion before his world title shots and defended it afterwards there were no requirements to give it up.
Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
Henry cooper kept hold of the british title while challenging for the world title.
Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
Hope that clears it up lads.
Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
Interesting result I found while looking over records,
When Dennis Andries beat Tony Sibson for the world title Boxrec also has him as defending the british title. So you dont have to give it up even if you win the world title ,Never seen an example of this before but I suppose Dennis didnt like the idea of giving up anything without a fight.

Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
Herol Graham won the british title before fighting Mike Mccallum then defended it against Rod douglas afterwards.
It also looks like Graham held onto the title while challenging Julian jackson and Kalambay for the euro before defending and losing to frank grant for the british

Aren’t these very old examples though?
Is there anyone more recent we can think of?

Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
Some British champions vacate their title as they seem to think being ranked with one or two governing bodies makes them world class.
Also, when they lose they still think they are world class and expect their promoters to get them another shot rather than step back down to their actual level.

Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
JonP is right, there is nothing to say you have too vacate the British title to fight for a world title, if you was to win the world title then obviously the British then becomes vacant, again like jon said they usually vacate has they have had a mandatory they can’t swerve and don’t want to risk a possible bigger fight that’s in the pipeline.
Don’t hold me too it but more recently I’m pretty sure paul Smith may have been British champion when he challenged for world title unsuccessfully and he remained British champion until he vacated to make way for his brother Callum.

Re: Zach Parker Relinquishes British Super-Middleweight Title
Its still under world title rules wether interim or not,So proves the point that there is no rule that challenging (or indeed bizarly in the dennis andries case) that a boxer has to vacate the british title challenge for a world title. Surely yr not still trying to make a case that a boxer has to vacate the british to fight for the world??
