Another fight that Mayweather wouldn't have touched with a 10 foot pole.

The Explosive Thin Man had problems with movers. Guys that we're swift of feet were his Achilles's hill. Pretty Boy Floyd by unanimous decision.
Re: Super Featherweights : Alexis Arguello vs . Floyd Mayweather jr
Floyd outboxes him with no problem. Way too fast and elusive for Arguello.
Re: Super Featherweights : Alexis Arguello vs . Floyd Mayweather jr
Floyd, but he better be aware all 12 or 15 rounds. And if it is 15, I think Arguello could possibly catch him and stop him.
Re: Super Featherweights : Alexis Arguello vs . Floyd Mayweather jr
Arguello is one of the greats at 130, but this is one of the worst style matchups imaginable for him. Floyd by UD all day.
Re: Super Featherweights : Alexis Arguello vs . Floyd Mayweather jr
In Nevada Mayweather.
Anywhere else Arguello.
Anywhere else Arguello.
Re: Super Featherweights : Alexis Arguello vs . Floyd Mayweather jr
Agree to disagree.
Mayweather grossly overrated.

I would have to go Floyd in 12. A 15 rounder maybe a different story. I like many don’t care for Floyd’s antics and attitude, but he is great. Yet I rank Arguello higher on an all time list I feel Floyd troubles him. I mean he lost to Villomar Fernandez! (Yes he avenged it, but still struggled). That being said if Floyd lapses......think Kevin Rooney! You can’t throw a better right hand. I used to tell people “listen to this punch!”

No justifiable way to rank Arguello higher on the all time list frankly. He shouldn't even be within 40 spots of Floyd Jr. I'm a much bigger fan of Arguello than I am Mayweather, but that's just the way it is.Brian Seneca wrote: ↑17 Jun 2019, 20:34 I would have to go Floyd in 12. The modern game pales in comparison to what we had 40 years ago..

I would think arguello would be in my top 40. So I can't agree with that.

I don’t disagree that Floyd is great. I think it was more difficult to achieve what Alexis did then compared to what Floyd did now. I couldn’t even tell you how many different weight class titles Floyd won because they came in abundance. Did he win a jr, middle title? His fights in my memory became more about his opponents than the title at stake. Yes he never won a WBO title to my knowledge, but he was a WBC darling. Now that being said he had to win his fights and with the exception of Castillo he did in impressive fashion. My point is there was only two belts then. Alexis could have easily won the WBC junior welterweight title from Mamby or Curry or Costello ( whom he beat later) but he chose Pryor because he was the best. Had Alexis fought now he could have possibly moved to welter and picked up some WBO IBC BS title. His three titles IMO mean more than Floyd’s 30 or whatever he won. Not saying Jr wasn’t the best of his generation. Just different.

Floyd won 154 belts from Oscar and cotto, maybe canelo too. Not exactly cherry picking.

Re: Super Featherweights : Alexis Arguello vs . Floyd Mayweather jr
Well for starters. Seeing as how Arguello never managed to win a title in a 4th weight class, every single title win and defense that Floyd had from his 4th weight class onward. Could be considered as fitting this achievement.
In this run he beat the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Canelo Alvarez, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez, Manny Pacquiao...among others.
A difficult list of fighters to have fought regardless if that was your original weight or not, and it wasn't for Floyd.
Name me some Arguello wins on par with what you'd consider Floyd's biggest wins.

For starters, winning WBS titles in different weight classes doesn't mean anything.
(btw- Mayweather wouldn't have dreamed of fighting Aaron Pryor)
Take a look at the stages of Mayweather's opponents when he fought them:
Pacquiao was shot. Hadn't stopped anyone in more than 5 years.
Mosley-Even more shot. This was 6 years after Winky Wright beat Mosley.
De La Hoya-Was past it. This is after an ancient Hopkins had beat De La Hoya much more impressively than Mayweather did.
Mayweather struggled much more than he should have against De La Hoya.
Marquez - Had to jump two weight classes.
Alavarez and Cotto? Arguello beat many fighters better.
Arguello beat Chacon, Mancini, Castillo, and Boza-Edwards. They weren't legends, but they were all very good fighters. Arguello actually stopped all of them convincingly.

I still believe that Pretty Boy Floyd was the better fighter. He had a way greater resume than the great Explosive Thin Man. Both great, great fighters in my view.

Re: Super Featherweights : Alexis Arguello vs . Floyd Mayweather jr
A WAY better resume? I think and I don’t know how old you are, but we begin to look at current fighters as better. For instance when Floyd beat Manfreddy he was considered a top fighter. Same with Chico Corales. My point is some of the fighters Alexis beat were top 10 current former or future champions. Would Manfreddy even be top 10 in the late 70’s? The only fighter who was past his prime was Olivares and he went on to stop Chacon. I agree Oscar, Shane, Manny were all past their best. Is this Floyd’s fault? No. How do you rate Terry Norris career resume? Mugabi, Leonard, Curry, Brown, Taylor. Sounds IMPRESSIVE right? All were done and Curry gave him a helluva fight before folding and being hit while down. Yes Floyd is great and I don’t care for him but I recognize greatness. I think belts are more plentiful now and easier to achieve than in Arguello’s day. Doesn’t make his resume far less impressive than Mayweather. No disrespect meant about asking your age. Just seems when you witnessed things live as apposed to reading about them your perspective can be differentelmersalsa wrote: ↑20 Jun 2019, 14:39 I still believe that Pretty Boy Floyd was the better fighter. Yeah Mancini clearly a greater win than Canelo
