Ted Cheeseman vs. Kieron Conway - 21 June 2019
The 23-year-old Bermondsey man (15-1, 9 KOs) will return to the ring on June 21 against Kieron Conway.
‘The Big Cheese’ will box on a JDNXTGEN card at Bethnal Green’s famous York Hall venue, exclusively live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN Stateside.
Conway, a 23-year-old from Northampton, has a record of 12-1 with three quick. He was last in action earlier this month in his home city when he outpointed Harry Matthews, just over a fortnight after he featured in the Ultimate Boxxer tournament at the Indigo at the O2 in Greenwich, London, exclusively live on BT Sport.
Conor Benn tops the bill in a defence of his WBA Continental welterweight title against Jussi Koivula and Craig Richards meets Andre Sterling in a final eliminator for Joshua Buatsi’s British light-heavyweight title.

He took a hiding against Garcia. Not sure he can mentally recover from that.

Cheeseman will win this but I fear his level has been found. To compete at a higher level he needs to improve a lot

Meh, he is still at the age where he can improve. Yes he took a hiding from Garcia, he needed a wake up call on his defence anyway.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑28 May 2019, 10:11 He took a hiding against Garcia. Not sure he can mentally recover from that.

who are some examples of fighters notably improving there defence
marco antonio barrera always stands out for this
who else
defense is such an important basic part of boxing that its strange some guys have been boxers for years and years yet cant seem to get out of the way of a shot or even make an attempt to

I think most fighters who stay at or near the top into their 30's develop or improve their defence. They have to. Pac is better now than when he was, say, in his late 20's. The invincibility of youth and the stamina aspects don't tend to last past the 20's.jamamb wrote: ↑28 May 2019, 13:19 who are some examples of fighters notably improving there defence

Watched Conway against Gino lanterns where he won 40-37. No way did he deserve the win against the journeyman (at the time). Cheeseman comfortable

Re: Ted Cheeseman vs. Kieron Conway - 21 June 2019
Cheeseman comes across a bit like Eggington, I doubt the schooling from Garcia will alter his style too much, he might try and tweak things but all in all he's gonna be a come forward pressure fighter with zero head movement and not much care for defence at all really, I still like him, going for the European straight after winning the British was a gamble that never paid off, people might say it was reckless matchmaking and although it was slightly, Cheeseman will always end up in wars like that even in another 20 fights I can see Cheeseman taking similar beatdowns, its one thing having a poor defence but whats worse is him being unable to change things up during a fight
I like Conway in the Ultimate Boxxer, he lost the eventual winner Osaze in a fight which could've gone either way, he's big strong with a bit of class, 3 rounders are hard to tell whether a fighters durable but if he is then Cheeseman might have another tough one
I'm thinking Cheeseman's experience will see him through some tough early rounds to finish strong for a points win

Give the lad a wee chance- youth and all that OK?
If he learned nothing from the Garcia fight, and continues to get hammered and ship lots of punches into his late 20's, then maybe.
But I have seen gradual improvement. And given his age, I am giving the benefit of the doubt for a few more years at least.
Re: Ted Cheeseman vs. Kieron Conway - 21 June 2019
I can see the Cheese being defensively savvy for a round or two, then giving up on that nonsense and walking his man down.
As a Cheeseman fan I may just have to accept that he may always get outboxed by fighters who have a good jab, chin and engine.
But anyone else is gonna get it

I think the only way Ted wins a world title is if it’s vacant and that too against a weaker opposition. A Shifat Isufi type opponent.
Re: Ted Cheeseman vs. Kieron Conway - 21 June 2019
I thought Matchroom pushed Ted too quick rather than any real deficiency for a 23 years old.
Plenty of time to improve, but not if Matchroom push him to breaking point too soon.

Sounds like Cheeseman has spaffed his earnings away, very sad

Thanks for that Tony.
Here is an excerpt;
“In the last five or six years I have gambled heavily,” said Cheeseman. “I wouldn’t like to put a number on it. It’s high – hundreds of thousands if not touching a million, because I have had a lot of money in the last five years.
“I was betting silly money – hundreds and thousands. As much as I did well to keep it a secret to a lot of people, even some of my close family, my missus knew.
“I came from nothing, that’s what you’ve got to understand, so it becomes an addiction. When I was 16 and 17 I was tight, because I didn’t want to waste money. But then I started hanging out with older people and they were always getting big money.
“Then I started getting big money. It becomes normal to go and spend five grand a night, to go to Selfridges and spend 10 grand on clothes and shoes – to buy yourself a nice 15 grand watch.
“But to sustain that lifestyle when you are boxing? You might not have a fight for five or six months. I’m going to eat into it and I want to get it back. You look at a pair of trainers for £600 and think I’m not wasting money on that – but two minutes later you have done three grand in an hour, that’s the addiction part.
“The last fight was a blessing in disguise. If I’d won it I’d have got massive money for my next fight and all I would have done is the exact same thing again and by the time my career finished I’d have ended up with nothing.”

Bullshit. He must have inherited a lot or been selling to have afforded it.

Dunno, I saw a fair few people wearing merch at his fight against Upton. I don't know if he has sponsorship, but he has headlined a few hasn't he.mickey1975 wrote: ↑18 Jun 2019, 16:01 Bullshit. He must have inherited a lot or been selling to have afforded it.

A million quid and not even a British title defence? Shirley not?
15 grand watch, 600 quid trainers wtf no wonder he’s skint I have no sympathy if that’s what he’s been doing with his cash.

Wtf ? I think 50 quid is a lot for a pair of trainers . I just don't get the modern generation .
