I dunno man. It’s an image thing I suppose. I’m not overly flush most months but even if I had money to burn 600 quid trainers would not be one of the things I’d buy

There are folk who buy clothes before they pay the rent, also there is a lot of credit card debt, along with a lot of frivolous people.
A lot of folk have a flash car on the drip, fancy clobber on the credit card, and will be living with their parents untill they die!
Maybe for some folk buying expensive trainers is possible but they know they won't be able to buy a house unless they win the lottery

£1m sounds a massive amount though, but as he went same school as me his maths like mine probably isn't the best
Good luck to him though, tough to kick the habit I've known a lot of others struggle with a variety of addictions including gambling and cos its pretty hidden one of the tougher ones to detect from the outside.
Re: Ted Cheeseman vs. Kieron Conway - 21 June 2019
Cheeseman has been found out. His defence is poor at best and the best way to beat the bully is to bully him. Cheeseman takes far too many punches in the face, he will not have a long career. He has achieved well, many fighters would like to have held title/s he has but to think he is levels above is totally deluded.

I work for a bank. In the financial support department. The amount of accounts I go through a day with gambling. People that don’t even have money it’s really strange. But it’s a bad addiction.mfc_se15 wrote: ↑19 Jun 2019, 08:51 Good ticket seller tbf.

if he has earnt a million pounds through boxing then my cocks a kipper. I would expect his biggest purse to be about 50k. and you can strip from that his trainer, manager, promoter etc

Re: Ted Cheeseman vs. Kieron Conway - 21 June 2019
Conway is mirroring our own thoughts;
“I’d say the amount of punches taken in his last fight will impact ours because I’d imagine he will be coming with a lot more head movement and less aggression, as the longer the fight goes the more his aggression will play into my hands.
“I sparred six rounds with him about two years ago, but two weeks can make huge differences in boxing let alone two years, so I can’t really take much from that. He's fit and relentless in his work but I'm not sure how much his last fight will have taken out of him - he took a lot of damage for 12 rounds."
If he does have what it takes to beat Cheeseman, all the best to him. We will be the winners no matter the outcome because this is set to be a really good little domestic tearup. I'm leaning 60/40 to Cheeseman.
Love these next gen cards, love York Hall. It's on my bucket list to go to one and I'm jealous of those who have. And isn't it nice to read a young guy talking sense without being disrespectful.

It's nice to have nice things. 15 bags on a kettle ain't a waste as he will get most back If he sells it or might make a few quid on it. £600 on trainers is a lot but if that's what you like then fair play. Gambling though is a mugs game (I know), if you win you don't really win as you know it's going back.
Re: Ted Cheeseman vs. Kieron Conway - 21 June 2019
i think thats a fair resume mate to be honest. a flat track bully maybe, a bit like adam etches and im sure i can think of many more if i try. these boys should be proud of the level they reach and can operate at, but ship far too many punches to get to fringe or actual world level. euro challenger is about it. David Walker was another one.keirw wrote: ↑18 Jun 2019, 03:11 I can see the Cheese being defensively savvy for a round or two, then giving up on that nonsense and walking his man down.
As a Cheeseman fan I may just have to accept that he may always get outboxed by fighters who have a good jab, chin and engine.
But anyone else is gonna get it![]()

It all depends what he’s gambling on; let’s say it’s roulette, and his average return is 97%, then he could have gambled 1 mill and gotten 970k in winnings - losing only 30k.
If he’s sports betting then bookies margin will be much greater. Horses, or worse still greyhounds, their over-round will range from 10-50%+
Would make more sense that if he’s a fiend and betting on all sorts then he’s losing at least 20p for every pound he bets on average so you can do the math.

How so?
There’s 37 numbers on a roulette table and it pays 35/1.
So you’re losing a quid for every £37 you gamble.
1,000,000/37= £27,027
So it’s more like 97.3% avg returns.

As for Cheeseman, good luck to the lad, he’s a proper fighter but sounds like he needs some careful guidance / matchmaking if he’s to have any sort of longevity in boxing.

The £1m tag is misleading.
I had £20 credit on the National Lottery website, done a few scratchcards, won a £20 and £15 prize, kept 'investing' won a few smaller one's,, carried on playing, went to bed with £10 left in the kitty and woke next morning to an advisory email saying i'd blown £60.
Reality was i'd done a tenner.

Maybe not the whole £1m was his own money to begin with,
He probably lost most of the money he won.

Cheeseman Admits Career Will Be Over if He Loses To Conway
Ted Cheeseman has admitted that his maiden British Super-Welterweight title defence against Northampton's Kieron Conway at the legendary York Hall tomorrow night is must-win.
"This is a very important fight for me, I'm not delusional, if I lose this then it's finished for me really in boxing," said Cheeseman. "There's no point in fighting at a level below this. If I go below this then it's over, you have to build up again. This is a build-up fight.
"I made my own mistakes and wasn't successful in the last fight. Everyone forgets though, that my last opponent was No. 2 in the world, I stayed in there for 12 rounds, and he couldn't hurt me.
"I'm in the best shape I've ever been in, I have tunnel vision on boxing. I'm going in there to rip Conway's head off, I'm not bad-mouthing him but that's my plan. Sooner or later he gets stopped, the confidence is back.
"The fight with Scott Fitzgerald is signed, sealed and delivered if I win on Friday night!"

23 years old and talking of quitting with only 1 respectable loss in an EBU title fight. I think this is the ridiculous and damaging effect Hearn's style of management/promotion has on his boxers.
"Must win" has to the most overused term in boxing and it's mostly bollox.

Anyone give Conway a chance? I’ve never seen him but seen Cheese last 2 fights. A decent boxer will have no problem with him based on his last fight.
Is Conway that boxer?

115-114 Cheeseman( in agreement with Terry O'Connor
) it was a close fight I'm not really sure how Smith and Macklin were confident Cheeseman won it by a few rounds, it was competitive all the way through, it swung back and forth, Cheeseman fought as he only knows how, come forward, get in close and left the punches go, Conway grew into the fight as the rounds wore on, showed some classy punches and plenty heart to hang tough with Cheeseman, he done a good job of riding a lot his punches
Cheeseman come back into it in the later rounds as Conway understandably started to tire and Cheeseman's experience against better opposition showed, he finally started to find a home for the right hand over the top and dug in some sick bodyshots but Conway's a classy operator and tough as old boots, he never really looked hurt in the fight
As I said I thought Cheeseman nicked it but not a robbery IMO, he defo has to change his style, this walking forward not jabbing his way in is gonna end ugly sooner or later but credit to Conway coming in at 3 weeks notice and putting in a showing like that proves that he's domestic level already

The 116 card for Conway was miles off as well - sometimes you do wonder what fight they are watching.handsofstone wrote: ↑21 Jun 2019, 17:03 115-114 Cheeseman( in agreement with Terry O'Connor) it was a close fight I'm not really sure how Smith and Macklin were confident Cheeseman won it by a few rounds, it was competitive all the way through, it swung back and forth, Cheeseman fought as he only knows how, come forward, get in close and left the punches go, Conway grew into the fight as the rounds wore on, showed some classy punches and plenty heart to hang tough with Cheeseman, he done a good job of riding a lot his punches

You could see a lot of fights between Ted/Fitz/Fowler between them all being right UK scraps.

Having watched the fight I was also bemused to hear Macklin announce that Cheeseman had comfortably done enough to win, as I had Conway winning a close but clear fight.
Conway was far slicker, landed the cleaner punches, and was comfortable in there he didn’t look hurt as he made Cheeseman miss with most of his shots.
I bet this match to be a draw before the fight but included it in a double with the Finnish opponent to beat Benn on points
