Juanma Lopez Discussing PBC Deal, Eyes Abner Mares Fight

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Former two-division champion Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez (36-6-1) is in Sin City to watch his friend Guillermo Rigondeaux take on Julio Ceja in a WBC super bantamweight final eliminator. The winner will be next in line to face the champion Rey Vargas who fights Tomoki Kameda on July 13th.

Besides watching the fight, Lopez has business to discuss. He is in town to discuss a deal with Premier Boxing Champions.

"I am talking to Luis DeCubas Jr. to see what fights we can make. He is talking to my promoter Javier Bustillo to see what we can come up with," Lopez told BS.com.

The 35-year-old Lopez is 2-1-1 in his last 4 fights with one of those victories a knockout of his long time rival Wilfredo Vasquez Jr.

Lopez held WBO titles at 122 and 126 pounds. He has recently fought at 135 pounds but said that he can still make the 130 pound super featherweight limit if the money is right.

"I have been fight at 135 but I can still make 130. It all depends on what we negotiate. Recently the better fights have been at 135 but I would like to fight at 130," Lopez stated.

As far as potential opponents within the PBC, former three-division champion Abner Mares is at the top of his wish list.

I wouldn't think Lopez even has much value as a name opponent anymore, which is the only reason why anybody would be signing him at this point. I'm not even sure beating him means anything really at this point. He's finished, and has been finished as a relevant fighter.
