Kovalev is 36 y/o. He's old, man. He's just a good trophy with a belt for Canelo (28y/o). Callum is 29, Gvozdyk is 32 and Bivol is 28. Not saying that Kova would be a bad opponent but if you want to prove your greatness then go for the young champions of a division.

We will see Golovkin v Canelo 3 for sure but perhaps Alvarez is hoping to delay it another year for personal reasons eg knee issues, enjoying a decent testing free period, another year on GGGs clock. As he is the only one stopping it the pressures on him to sign will be huge.

So yes, Canelo might well stick to the Mayweather strategy of fightng big names on the descent and go after Kovalev next, a good a time as any, but the GGG fight isn't going away.
