I predict Kovalev because GBP sees Kovalev as ripe for the taking and realizes he probably wont be around too long before he retires.

Sergey Kovalev is now reportedly in the driver’s seat to be the next opponent for superstar Saul Canelo Alvarez to fight on September 14 on DAZN, according to Mike Coppinger and Chris Mannix. Gennady Golovkin, Demetrius Andrade and Callum Smith were in the running for Canelo’s fight in September, but it appears that the Mexican star and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions like Kovalev (33-3-1, 28 KOs) as the guy for that date.

Kovalev Canelo is he fight I didn’t know I wanted but now I want it bad. I hope catch weights and rehydration clauses take the fun out of things.

Eh sorry I meant to say ‘don’t take the fun out of things’. I’d be very hyped for the fight otherwise. I see Canelo as a natural super middleweight albeit a shorter one. This is a great challenge for him and an interesting mix of styles. Bring on this fight without stipulations.

Kovalev option sounds the most interesting. Andrade will be a relatively easy matchup for Canelo. GGG still sounds interesting, but this will most likely be nothing new. Kovalev option sounds the most challenging for Canelo and unpredictable. However, I'll favor Kovalev for sure.

I hope it's Andrade, the 2nd best middleweight on the planet.

Canelo should have the opportunity to become the first undisputed Mexican middleweight champion.

Fights against Kovalev or Smith just seem like novelty bouts unless Canelo claims all the 160 lb. belts first.

Andrade on September 14 must happen.

I think with Oscars rant on Twitter about Hearn that Andrade can be dismissed from the conversation

You know that he never defeated Golovkin, so you need to keep persuading yourself.

Somehow you prefer to ignore the record books and insist on your own version of reality.

Who won? The guy who carries around all the belts. Nothing changes that.

You mean the guy who bought the belts and his record. Should have at least 3 losses on his record.

But he doesn't. A young Canelo only lost to the best damn fighter of the past few generations.

You can look it up.

I tried to research whether Canelo actually bought some belts. Apparently he once did at Wal-Mart to go with his jeans, but other than that, there's no other evidence to support your claim.

But he is regarded by most respected folks in the boxing community as one of the finest talents on the planet.

You would think that same view would hold weight by now even in the alternative universe you inhabit.

On paper, he lost only one, but we all (including you) know that he lost at least two more.

September seems too close for a major fight. No time to promote. So I chose "others", someone not so dangerous. Maybe a faded or dodgy super-middle with the intent of saying "look at me I really am super middle now".

I'm going with Chris Eubank Jr.

Michael Benson (TalkSport) claims that Kovalev will not fight Canelo next. So, Kovalev, Andrade and Smith are out of game.
Golovkin or the others, that is a question.
