Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Eddie Mustafa Muhammad II

Post by Nile4000 »

If these two had their rematch in early 1981 as planned, who would have prevailed?

Very misleading title......I have updated it to better convey your thoughts.

I think Mustafa would likely have prevailed again at that time.

It's very clear that Muhammad would've won.

Now ask me who prevails between Reggie Johnson and Jack Johnson.

That fight could not be made, not after the merger.

Saad Muhammad would cut Mustafa off the ropes and hitting him with powerful blows on the inside to take a 15 round decision. If Mustafa Muhammad decide to box him and move around the ring while hitting him sharp combinations on the outside to last 15 rounds, he would take a decision. Imo, Saad Muhammad and Mustafa Muhammad would exchange blows in an even, but Saad Muhammad would prevail behind his powerful punches to take a hard fought 15 round split decision in their rematch if it had happened.

Could have gone either way. It was a good, close fight when they were both young. Both improved after that. I guess I would lean towards Mustapha Muhammad. Both were great fighters.

I still find it incredible that Saad has been in the HOF for 21 years and Eddie is still not in. I don't think he is even on the ballot!

Ha!

Must say that I agree with Alp's analysis. Obviously, '81 turned out to be a bad year for both men, but I feel like Saad's decline was more dramatic. Mustafa certainly had more left after they both lost their titles.

Dude, Eddie delivered one of the greatest body punching displays I've ever seen against Marvin Johnson. Saad had a tremendous uppercut but Eddie's chin, defense and infighting would almost always have a slight edge on saads power, desire, activity and stamina at their best IMO. Matt was more consistent though.
