Różański better than Izu Ugonoh but KOs him in a controversial fashion, LHW prospect gets robbed

Post by dagilechia »

Lots of evenly matched fights + very good prospects on the card, this gonna be entertaining :bag: (http://boxrec.com/en/event/789022):

🇵🇱 Izuagbe Ugonoh - 18(15) 1(1) 0 - (inactive) vs 🇵🇱 Łukasz Różański - 10(9) 0 0 - (BoxRec's #77) - 10 rounds
Polish Heavyweight Title fight

🇵🇱 Paweł Stępień - 12(11) 0 0 - (BoxRec's #48) vs 🇵🇱 Marek Matyja - 16(7) 1(0) 1 - (BoxRec's #74) - 10 rounds
Polish International Light Heavyweight Title fight

🇺🇦 🇵🇱 Fiodor Czerkaszyn - 12(8) 0 0 - (BoxRec's #145) vs 🇦🇺 Wes Capper - 20(12) 2(0) 1 - (BoxRec's #65) - 10 rounds
Middleweight fight

🇵🇱 Kamil Szeremeta - 19(4) 0 0 - (BoxRec's #12) vs 🇳🇮 Edwin Palacios - 12(8) 9(4) 1 - (BoxRec's #381) - 8 rounds
Middleweight fight

Super Middleweight fight

🇵🇱 Adrian Ali Ahmad - debut - vs 🇺🇦 Oleksandr Czerwiak - 0 1(0) 1 - (no rating) - 4 rounds
Welterweight fight

Ugonoh vs Różański is a competetive HW match, this event is held in Różański's hometown at stadium of his favourite football team, it should be entertaining while it lasts, Stępień and Cherkashyn are world class prospects that will have decent tests in Matyja and Capper respectively, EBU champion Szeremeta will have a warm-up fight before ''something bigger'' in next few months, Tryc is an entertaining, offensive euro-level prospect who will face a tough Belarusian journeyman with a deceiptful record Ivan Murashkin, Adrian Ali Ahmad will make his pro boxing debut, i heard that he was a decent kickboxer (Euro champ in kickboxing), also on the card undefeated HW trained by James Ali Bashir Volodymyr Katsuk, and Damian Kiwior, fighter with good amateur background but who failed quickly on his prospect road losing to some no name in UK.

Euro-level SMW prospect Mateusz Tryc wins UD 6 over tough, underrated journeyman Ivan Murashkin of Belarus.

Technically sound Murashkin won the 1st and 2nd round (the 2nd round was close though) with his superior footwork and elusiveness. Tryc, who is a physically stronger fighter, was going forward, he was looking for a brawl and constant pressure made Murashkin already tired a little bit in round 3. Since the start of round 3, Tryc was outworking Murashkin until the last bell, though Murashkin was still landing some good counters from time to time.

World class MW prospect Fiodor Czerkaszyn wins by UD 10 over Wes Capper of Australia.

Czerkaszyn showed a bit of everything. Good jab, fantastic 3-4 (sometimes even more) punch combinations, decent defence and footwork, high ring IQ, he is at least solid in every aspect. Capper had his short moment in rounds 4 and 6, for the rest of the fight he was completely helpless. The Australian was tough, but it looked like Czerkaszyn, who is only 23, was looking for experience rather than KO. He recently fought once at SMW, once at MW , but decided to continue his career at MW, he looks physically strong there.

EBU MW Champion Kamil Szeremeta wins by UD 8 over Edwin Palacios of Nicaragua.

Fight without history. It was a warm-up stay-active fight but Szeremeta wasn't looking impressive. He was getting hit too often in the first half of the fight by a taller Nicaraguan with a longer reach. Szeremeta was walking forward, he was slow though. he hurt Palacios in last rounds but he was lacking power to knock him out. Palacios relied on defence only. Szeremeta will fail at the world level, no doubt, he has some skills, it's enough for the Euro level, but he lacks power and defence for World level, he is also too schematic.

Official scorecards: 79-73, 80-72, 80-72

World class LHW prospect Paweł Stępień Drew with Marek Matyja in Polish International LHW Title bout. The official scorecards were a joke imo.

In the first round Matyja looked stiff while Stępień looking confident and cocky since begining. Round 2 was closer, both were working with their jab, ocasionally throwing some right hooks and overhands. Round 3 was clearly a Stępień round, he landed some clean and powerful punches and good combinations. Round 4 was close again, so was the Round 5. I think that Stępień edged all of them, but rounds 2, 4 and 5 were close, Stępień was landing better, cleaner and stronger punches. In round 6, Matyja's pressure finally was effective, he landed 2 good left hooks and he finally clearly won a round. Good counters and left-right combinations and fantastic movement, Stępień wins round 7. Matyja should use his left hand more. Round 8 was less explosive and closer, but again, imo Stępień edged it with his dominance in the last minute. Stępień clearly won Round 9, though Matyja caught him once on the ropes, in the last 10 seconds Stępień landed a powerful left hand that hurt Matyja. In Round 10, Matyja tried until the last bell, it was close, i'll give it to Matyja. It was visually closer than on the scorecards i guess but Stępień clearly won. He's talented.

Stępień isn't a typical Central/East Euro fighter, in defence he relies on his body movement, footwork and dodges rather than on the guard, he has his left hand down, he clearly has some motorical talent, he looks very natural in the ring, he's not conceptional, schematical in the ring. Matyja is a typical Euro fighter, high guard and straight punches, frontal position. He was too schematical and one-dimensional.

Official Scorecards: 96-94 Stępień, 97-93 Matyja, 95-95 Draw
My scorecard: 98-92 Stępień

Łukasz Różański wins by KO 4 over Izuagbe Ugonoh in Polish Heavyweight Title fight.

In round 1 Różański's attacks looked dangerous, quick and explosive, he dominated round 2 even more, Izu barely threw any punched, he looked frustrated. in Round 3 Izu looked hopeless, he got hurt early in the round but then he landed a decent uppercut, late in the round he was down imo without a punch but he was counted, he was down again, imo after a punch but this time he wasn't counted. Różański started strong in Round 4, he is throwing 2 jabs then a combination of hooks, while Izu looks terrible, he has no body and foot movement and he barely throws any punches. Late in the round Izu got caught in the corner, and Izu knelt and then a controversial situation happened - Różański punched Izu when he was kneeling, the referee counted to 10, Różański won in round 4 in a controversial fashion, but he was better and won every round, Izu looked terrible.

It was a Polish version of Joshua vs Ruiz.

My scorecard until the KO: 30-26 Różański

Różański was better and won every round, Ugonoh looked hopeless but it should be a DQ or NC.

Never heard of Rozanski before today. Built like a tank. That's probably going to be overturned to a DQ or NC though. Stupid on his part because he dominated that fight.

I doubt that it will be overturned but i hope so. It would be a hypocrisy if they don't overturn the result of this fight because the promoter of this event, co-promoter of Różański and co-promoter of Ugonoh is Głowacki's promoter and the referee Robert Gortat who officiated this fight criticized Robert Byrd's officiating of Głowacki-Briedis.

But maybe Izu was quite happy after the fight in a post fight interview because he expects the result to be overturned, he knew that he will lose this fight anyway and he had no will to continue, Różański's illegal punch was a gift for him, maybe he could continue but he didn't wanted to as he knew that DQ is the only way to win this fight.

Man. All these years, people saying Breazeale was top 10 because he had a life-and-death war with Ugonoh. That still doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Scratch Ugonoh off your prospect list if you had him. He was gassed and badly beaten. The foul didn't change anything.

I agree the foul doesn't change that he was getting badly beaten.
But it was so blatant, it should have been a DQ. Rozanski measured Ugonoh who was down on his knees before throwing the right hook which stretched him out.

Izu has no stamina and guts. He was disoriented under Rozanski's pressure early. After a brief success in the 3rd and a following unsuccessful flurry attempt, Izu looked tired and clueless. Rozanski hurt him for sure with KO punches including that illegal final punch, but still Izu didn't look hurt too much. Izu pretended to be hurt in order to find a way out of this fight and get a DQ win.

Very disappointed with Ugonoh. I had high hopes for him two or three years back. I soon developed grave doubts about his stamina and now you can add to that his cojones (yes, I'm very conscious of the fact that's coming from someone who would turn tail and flee from Rozanski).

The foul changed nothing. Ugonoh was getting bullied from the start and had no idea how to cope with someone Jammy not unreasonably describes as a pub-brawler. Tell me which pub Jammy I'll be sure to steer well clear.

I was sufficiently interested in Rozanski to ask Dagilechia about him a few weeks back. Dagi explained he was not a prospect and was the crude brawler type. I don't disagree but I'll tell you what though. Joshua could do a lot worse than bring over Rozanski for some sparring. Put the big gloves on him and tell him "try to take my head off". It might improve AJ's defence against the shorter, pressure fighter and/or it might add another perp to those knocked out in sparring stories :D

Izu had potential but he was enjoying the celebrity life too much, he was in the dancing with the stars, he played a role in some movie, his sister is a famous model... at the same time he fought once per 2 years. Michalczewski, who is Izu's promoter, said after the fight ''Izu doesn't listen even to me, so if i'm not authority for him then who is?'' he also suggested IU to retire and said that Izu believes too much in his punching power but in HW everyone can bang, it's punch resistance what matters and wins fights.

I like Izu he's a smart guy but too overweening while his best wins are Gregory Tony, Julius Long and Łukasz Rusiewicz

And Różański... yes he is a crude brawler, but if you have some power and chin, that's enough in this poor division to make it into top 30 or even higher

Różański sparred with Hunter before this fight, so why not spar with AJ? He would be a decent sparring partner before Ruiz rematch, this fight was AJ vs Ruiz Polish edition.

9 years and 20 fights and 0 notable wins despite the potential he obviously had, maybe no world champion potential but i thought he can make it to the top 20, he could be a world champion in wasting career and potential.

In hindsight, Breazeale's best win might now be Mansour, which he won in strange circumstances. Definitely does not deserved to be ranked highly with that.

Breazeale's win over Ugonoh certainly looked a lot better then than it would do now. It was a terrific fight though. Let's not take that away from them.
