As reported by Boxingtalk on Monday, the WBA annunced its plan for the 154-pound division. [Julian Williams is listed as the super champion, and Brian Castan was stripped of the regular title].

Michel Soro, who is #1 in the rankings, will face Magomed Kurvanov on July 20th for the regular title, while #2 Erislandy Lara will step into the ring on August 31st against Ramon Alvarez for the interim belt. But there is a twist: According to the WBA, "the winners of both fights will face each other for the super title" but that title already belongs to Williams.

I don't really understand this situation.

I can't find any mention of Julian Williams being stripped or having vacated his WBA “Super” 154lbs world championship. In fact, the WBA gave him an “Honourable Mention” during the month of May.

So assuming the total absence of information means that Julian Williams’ world title reign is unaffected by the WBA’s mini-tournament, with the winners of the bouts for the “regular” and “interim” belts, facing each other for the “super” title, then the WBA will either have two “super” champions or they’ll create a new strap especially for J-Rock (much akin to the WBC’s newly-created “franchise” title).

Does this mean that when the “regular” and “interim” belts are eventually vacated, due to the winner of the Soro-Kurvanov-Lara-Alvarez mini-tournament becoming the “super” champion, will this inevitably lead to the WBA to mandating bouts for these vacant titles? Four world champions!

J rock is the man at 154 right now. That's all that matters. Canelo is at 160, Smith at 168. About to find out who the new top dog is at 200.

Some divisions lack some clarity like hw and 147 and 175 but honestly who cares about these belts anymore? Let's evolve.

The ONLY thing these orgs are good for is enforcement of madatories which gives high risk/low reward fighters title shots. The WBC literally just invented something to prevent that. So they are all useless and we should try to never mention them agan.

That's honestly the only solution. Everybody needs to come together, and agree that WE ALL don't give a f*ck about any of this nonsense. The best fight the best. We know who the #1 guy is. F*ck off with your belts, and sanctioning fees, and stripping of titles, and needing to fight 3 Eliminators to be mandatory...oh wait until the promoter says something, and now you need to fight a 4th Eliminator.

F*ck 'em all.

There is no good title organization. They're all crooks who contribute NOTHING to our sport, and deserve none of our respect or attention.
