Michel Soro vs Magomed Kurbanov

Post by handsofstone »

Super Welterweight action live on B/Nation this Saturday, former World title challenger Soro takes on unbeaten Russian Kurbanov, not seen or heard of Kurbanov, not sure if he's an amateur stand out. nothing much on his record so far, Soro lost a decision to Baysangurov for the WBO title 7 years ago, hard to believe it was that long ago, I remember watching it, Soro pushed the champ close, ive not seen much of Soro lately but he's a good boxer, has wins over the likes of Carslaw, Tapia and Blandamura and a few other recognisable names, he's put 3 wins on the spin together after losing a split to Castano

Michel Soro Gets New Opponent, Kurbanov Out Due To Visa

Michel Soro is now on his third opponent in a bid to capture a secondary title.

The 31-year old super welterweight contender will now take on France’s Anderson Prestot, who steps in on just one day’s notice for the World Boxing Association (WBA) “Regular” super welterweight title Saturday evening at Palais des Sports in Marseille, France.

Prestot (23-1, 12KOs) replaces unbeaten Magomed Kurbanov, who was unable to sort out visa issues in time to make the trip from his native Russia.

“After a delay in obtaining his visa, the Russian Magomed Kurbanov finally refused on Friday to go to France and fight Michael Soro for the world championship,” event handler Univent Production offered through an official press statement. “Despite this last-minute change, the show will go on this Saturday.”

Kurbanov accepted the assignment exactly one month ago, as the unbeaten Russian was prepared to bid for his first title shot. It will have to come another day, however, as travel issues left him stranded in Russia until it was too late to make the trip and adequately recover in time for Saturday’s fight.

“Our team just received our travel visas today,” German Titov, Kurbanov’s promoter told BS.com. “It’s a crazy situation. Magomed is distraught. He was ready to shock the world this weekend and bring home the world championship.”

That leads to Prestot getting the assignment, if only because he was the only accessible opponent both on short notice and whom would be accepted by the WBA.

"In light of this unforeseen and unexpected situation, we have been forced—within the WBA rules—to name a new opponent who falls within the WBA rankings and is ready to fight for the WBA World Championship against Michel Soro” explained promoter Sébastien Acariès. “Therefore, Anderson Prestot was named, as he was on his way to fighting for a world championship by 2020.

“This fight is just as exciting with these two boxers of high caliber, which is more a Franco-French fight for a world title as France has known for many years.”

These late visa issues are a pisstake from all involved, was looking forward to seeing how Kurbanov got on, Prestot's CV is wafer thin

Soro stops Prestot in the 5th, fun wee fight actually, Prestot played his part and come to win, showed ambition which isn't always the case with these last minute replacements, he let his hands go and there was plenty fun exchanges, Soro walked through everything Prestot had though and got off with better quality punching, strong jab, lead left hook and chopping right hands, dug in some nice body shot as well, Prestot did try to fight fire with fire though but you sensed it wouldn end well for him, Soro was just a level above

In the 5th the wheels started to come off for Prestot and when Soro trapped him in the corner, he teed off on him with both hands before Prestot finally wilted to the canvas, it was a right hand which was the decisive shot, Prestot made the count but his corner had seen enough

Around 3/4 of a Korean card recently got delayed 2 weeks due to visa issues for a Chinese contingent, for a Korea vs Chinese card. Only 4, all Korean, bouts took place.

Ogawa Fuzile also got delayed due to visa issues at the start of the month.

Becoming a bit of a joke and far, far too frequent
