AJ: Ruiz not the guy I wanted to be fighting

Post by oogiebe »

AJ is saying that Ruiz was not the guy he wanted to be fighting for a number of reasons, including that he wasn't "hyped" for the fight. His mind "wasn't into it."

What do you think about this latest series of excuses? Personally I think AJ is in denial and hasn't reconciled his loss. When you have excuses you might be prone to believe that you don't have to work on the things that you do.

Joshua was complimentary and said all the right things about his defeat and praised Ruiz in the immediate aftermath of June 1.

But over time, he has apparently decided to reverse course and start alibiing the loss.

Doesn't matter. No one ever believes a fighter's face-saving excuses. Joshua should just forget about it and instead focus on correcting his mistakes for the potential rematch.

He can't change what happened. Excuses or not. His future performances is how he'll be judged.

He's a fighter he has to believe there were extenuating circumstances. He doesn't need to publicize his thoughts though because that's just begging for a barrow load of scorn, probably much of it from the same people slating him for his immediate post-fight reaction.

Just shut-up Josh and concentrate on getting it right next time.

Its starting to sound like Joshua doesnt fancy his chances in a rematch.

All this guff about his uncle Nostradamus predicting that Ruiz was going to be a world beater....behave mate.

That last part was rather disturbing. AJ doesn't have his head on straight at all.

I get it. Some of AJ's statements are cringe worthy. Saw a vid on him put out in the last several days explaining all this stuff. Embarrassing.

Many were criticising his reaction immediately after and in the days following the fight. Fair enough they are entitled to their opinion but I thought he demonstrated real class.

Why he couldn't have left it there I don't know because all this coming out now is undignified and somewhat pathetic. Stiff upper lip old boy, what ho?

The question I always ask myself is AJ mentally strong enough to deal with the mind games Fury would bring.

I'd like to think so but it's a fair question.

Jesus I know he lost his last fight but he hasn't suddenly turned into a seven stone weakling with a personality to match.

Cut the guy some slack, eh.

AJ wouldn't be the first or last fighter that Fury would be able to get inside his head. I always felt AJ was too cerebral (thinks too much).

Maybe Oog but it does seem to me from your recent posts about AJ, that any belief you ever had in him got let-out with the bath-water. :D

Mine has taken a bit of a dent too, but i have to believe it's just a blip and that he hasn't morphed into 6' 8" Scouser. :box:

You haven't read my posts then. I was very supportive and compared his losing to other fighters who lost and went on to greatness, but these kinds of statements/beliefs are making me change my mind. If you watch this vid, you'll see what I mean. It's his mental state that concerns me. It's not the physical side.

Aj would still have a fair go against fury as furys not very aggressive.

True. Nor does he hit hard. but AJ's mental state should be a concern.

It’s our day and age with all the self serving look at me sites like FaceTime or Instaperson or whatever they are called. People just can’t get enough of themselves. Back when Sugar Ray lost to Duran, he didn’t start taking pictures of himself or making excuses to anyone who would listen. He locked himself away and got ready for the rematch several months later and redeemed himself in probably the best possible fashion one could.

These boxers today are a bunch of posers. AJ can knock the tacos out of Ruiz in the rematch but his luster is gone. Poser
