Will Top Rank ever get Bud an opponent he deserves?

Post by jujigatame »

Right now there is absolutely no point in Crawford fighting anyone but Pacquiao or the Spence/Porter winner. What are the odds those fights happen? Who can Bud fight who isn't a PBC property at this point?

These inter-promotional roadblocks are really demoralizing as a fan of the sport.

Sadly I don't think a Crawford vs Pacquiao fight will ever happen, Since realistically the latter doesn't need the fight and honestly may retire now with nothing left for him to prove.

It is like you say and I agree with you that inter-promotional fights seem to be a nightmare to arrange or agree in any sense in recent years, so Porter or Spence might be just as far off in the future, though I sincerely hope we aren't kept waiting too long like we all were with Mayweather vs Pacquaio before that finally happened.

If you consider former champions, Danny Garcia could be a good match, a former world champion who is still highly ranked and Keith Thurman who could be possible in the future now he isn't the WBA super champion and a fight between the pair could be a proving fight for either man (that Crawford can/will dominate against one of the biggest names in the division or that Thurman isn't done at the top).
Contender wise Yordenis Ugas could be an interesting match up, very capable boxer who can go the distance against world title contenders, despite a few slip ups earlier in his career he is a world level contender in himself and it even took Shawn Porter 12 rounds to beat him and he still only took the title on a split decision.

Bit outside the box this one but Mario Barrios could be an interesting fight in the future if he keeps developing and improving like he has been. His last 8 fights have all been KO, TKO or retired between rounds, with 16 out of 24 of his fights have ended early and at only 24 he has no where to go but up yet.
