Maxim Dadashev dies from Friday fight injuries

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Maxim Dadashev has died from injuries suffered during Friday's fight, according to trainer Buddy McGirt and Donatas Janusevicius, Dadashev's strength and conditioning coach.

Dadashev, 28, had been in UM Prince George's Hospital Center since the 11th-round loss to Subriel Matias. He underwent a two-hour surgery to relieve a subdural hematoma, or bleeding of the brain, and had been in a medically induced coma.

Early Saturday morning, neurosurgeon Mary IH Cobb told Dadashev's manager, Egis Klimas, and Janusevicius that the boxer had suffered a brain bleed on his right side, that his head was shaved and his scalp opened up, and that he was showing signs of severe brain damage. He had been given medication to decrease swelling.

Dadashev, from St. Petersburg, Russia, was 13-1 as a professional boxer.

boxing is f@cking unforgiving. these cases happen every year. you follow a guys career, thinking what the future might hold, then you see them die from the ring not long after,

I remember Buddy trying to stop the fight, begging and then eventually did. Almost saved him.

We want all the KO's, but unfortunately, this happens.. Not even always KO's.. It can just be taking too many head shots.

Boxers need to defend rather than just attack. That's the downfall.

Most boxers just know how to go toe to toe and exchange.

Horrible news.

its hard to know if he wouldve survived if stopped a couple rounds earlier. the nature of the injury is insidious and guys can keep fighting when already essentially there gonna die.

dadashev actually won the last round for one of the judges, when at that point his death was prob already inevitable

Geez. Considering how many bouts you've had, you are probably very thankful every time we hear of such unfortunate news.

It's strange really, as a younger man you feel invincible and that it would never happen to you, also even after hard fights your recovery time was really quick.
As you get older you hurt more, you have a bit more sense, you have got stuff to lose.
Realistically when I look back I feel I got away with it as you feel when you hear tragic things like this that it could have been me.
Obviously tragedies are relatively rare, but it does happen and furthermore demonstrates how brutal the sport is.

Sickening, the fine line between living and dieing in this sport is almost impossible to judge, the best fights of all time are known for their brutality

I don't like to criticize the medical personnel but it took a bit of time to get him out of the ring and then making him walk when he clearly was having difficulty walking was bad. The final sign for me was when he started vomiting on the stretcher, that is a horrific sign.

true mate, it was a back and forth fight with both guys taking a lot. dadashev was always coming back and landing his own. the type of fight we praise once its over. but in this case a guy is dead as a result.

when we see guys taking punishment, looking not so good, and then they say no mas, maybe ppl shouldnt be so quick to call them cowards etc. these guys have families and lives , they are human. they dont simply exist for us to be entertained. call me crazy, but knowing what the backlash is likely to be, it can sometimes actually take some courage to admit youve had enough

weve seen it so many times---a guy is still conscious and alert and stuff, but hes sluggish after the fight and then it spirals downwards into stuff like this

any time a guy is looking remotely groggy, sluggish, etc like this, they should get them out of there and right to higher level medical attention. no hanging around the ring, etc.....take the gloves off after wards and so on

that said, im not sure really much could be done in this case...but you look at what happened in argentina over the weekend too, and that type of stuff simply has no place in boxing

I’ve not seen the incident in question but it brings up a point Eddie Hearn made on IFL on Monday and it’s about Medical Care/Equipment available.

Some US States and European countries don’t have proper medical assistance be that personal / equipment and he was saying going forward (before this terribly sad case) that must be addressed and fixed regardless of cost.

He was using Italy show (Dazn) where Blandamura was KO’d and there was no Oxygen available ringside - and he couldn’t believe that was allowed to happen.

Szpilka and Dave Allen needed some assistance on Sat night and that sort of basic equipment must surely be made mandatory by all governing bodies.

Really tragic. RIP.

We shouldn’t have to be putting into a GoFundMe. They should all be insured in some manner so their families don’t have to worry about money when these rare events happen.

Seen loads of people calling for headguards and more even matchmaking. And further still some want the sport banned. All silly ideas.

I don’t have the answers though.

Well, two things stick out to me in this case. I can understand the fight going to the 11th round, although I really do dislike fights that continue past the late rounds when it's pretty clear cut that one fighter has no chance of winning on the cards and hasn't shown one punch power.

But the only things I can criticize in this case are that Dadashev wasn't put on a stretcher quickly enough. Trying to walk with a swelling, bleeding brain was probably causing more damage. He should have been put on the stretcher quicker. Then when he was in hospital they were trying to contact his wife/family to find out if he had any allergies before operating. This should have been noted before the fight. I'm not sure how long it took to get that information but surely this should have been covered in pre fight medicals. His brain was probably becoming more and more damaged by the second because of the pressure which would have been relieved quickly if they got him into surgery and took off part of his skull to let it swell.

One thing that raised real questions in my head is why were they calling his wife to know about allergies and previous head injuries? These should be on a pre fight medical.

Also Nakatani, on the same show, complained about how he had a medical on the same day as the weigh in at a different location, could that have effected his weight loss? Could Dadashev have had something similar? (TBF Nakatani was critical of a few things that disrupted him but I'd be shocked if he was the only guy on the card with the issues)

We also need to be thankful of when the doctors manage to do their work in time and save a life, like they did a few months back with Renerio Arizala. Lessons need to be learned from every tragedy. We can't stop them all, but there were some obvious failings here.

Sad indeed but as they say, we all know the risks.

It can be a cruel sport at times and it doesn't help when you have clowns like Wilder claiming they "want a body on my record"
