Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Evert Bravo - August 10, 2019

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Light heavyweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., a former middleweight world titlist and the son of the legendary Hall of Famer Julio Cesar Chavez, plans to return to the ring after a more than two-year layoff.

Zanfer Promotions announced on Tuesday that Chavez Jr. will return to face Evert Bravo on Aug. 10 in Mexico, with cities such as Tijuana, Puerto Vallarta and Lagos de Moreno potential sites.

Chavez (50-3-1, 32 KOs), 33, who held a 160-pound world title from 2011 to 2012, has not fought since losing a shutout decision -- 120-108 on all three scorecards -- to countryman Canelo Alvarez in a bout contested at a catchweight of 164 pounds.

Chavez made weight for that bout but has struggled to make even the super middleweight limit of 168 pounds in the past. The weight limit for the Aug. 10 bout will be 175 pounds, the light heavyweight maximum. Chavez has also had alcohol issues that have stymied his career.

In his most recent fight, Bravo (25-10-1, 19 KOs), 34, of Colombia, knocked out Luis Gonzalez in the fourth round on June 22 to end a three-fight losing streak in which he was knocked out all three times inside two rounds in super middleweight and light heavyweight bouts.

Zanfer said the undercard will include the return of former super middleweight world titlist Jose Uzcategui (38-3, 23 KOs), 28, a Venezuela native fighting out of Tijuana.

The bout will be Uzcategui's first since he got knocked down twice and lost a unanimous decision and his 168-pound world title to Caleb Plant on Jan. 19 in Los Angeles.

Zanfer said having Chavez and Uzcategui on the same card could set the stage for them to face each other.

Fight's supposedly in a few weeks and they don't have a site yet?

It will go the way of all those other countless bouts Chavez has had planned since the Canelo beating.

But Bravo does sound like an appropriate opponent for him.

I think when they do have a venue, whether it be 5k seater or whatever, I'm sure the tickets will shift fast. The name Chavez will sell anywhere in Mexico, I'm sure.

Unless someone can tell me otherwise.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Evert Bravo Lands in Jalisco

The expected comeback fight of former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. now has a location, a date, opponent and venue.

After more than two years of absence, the son of the legend, Chávez Jr. (50-3-1, 32 KO's) will face Colombian veteran Evert Bravo (25-10-1, 19 KO's) on Saturday, August 10.

The card will be televised by Azteca 7, and promoted by Zanfer Promotions.

The contest will be based at the Premier Diamond Salon in San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco. The site agreement was reached on Thursday, thanks to the efforts of the director of Mega Events, Héctor Garcia and the Government of Jalisco.

Chavez Jr. was the first Mexican to become a world middleweight champion, when in June 2011 he defeated Sebastian Zbik for the WBC title. By accomplishing this, Chavez Jr. and his father became the second Mexican father-son duo to become world champions, after Guty Espada and Guty Espada Jr.

It will be the first time that Chávez Jr. fights in the Mexican state of Jalisco.

His opponent, Bravo (25-10-1, 19 KO’s), is a fighter with great experience and international experience. He's 34 years old, and has spent around 15 years as a professional boxer. The Colombian veteran stacks up in size to Julio Jr. and in his most recent fight he, knocked out Luis Gonzalez in four rounds.

Throughout his career he's fought in several countries and faced opponents such as Sean Monaghan, Junior Younan and Alfredo Angulo. In his only fight in Mexico, he was knocked out by Roamer Alexis Angulo.

“I feel good because I have always learned from each fight and I am at a time when I know with more certainty what I want from my career. I am no longer playing around, as I know I did at some point, especially after the fight with Sergio Martínez - that I stopped thinking 100 percent about boxing. That is why I know that I'm on time to resume my career,” said Chavez Jr.

“I know that I have not given my best, I think and I am convinced that I can give more and that the best of Julio César Chávez Jr. is still to be seen. I am not a rookie, I am 33 years old, but I am not finished and I know I have four or five more years to prove what I know, what I am and what I have because now I am going to focus totally on boxing and win a second world championship," Chavez Jr. said.

Highly unlikely he's gonna all of the sudden find motivation now.

This is sounding basically exactly like "Focused" or "Unfocused" Zab Judah type arguments. Oh I'd be great if I was just more prepared...yeah well you never are so I guess you just ain't that guy huh?

If Chavez loses this he will retire. But then most boxers say that when there’s an orange in front of them. If and when he wins this, he’ll be straight into a decent to big money fights.

Some have already said DJ.
