Technically Hopkins started at 177 (with a loss on top of it).

Technically guys like Porter, Thurman also started their careers at higher weights. Most start off higher and then eventually settle down into the lower weight division.

I don't think the OP was referring to this.

I would say a recent name is Donaire.. I know the Bennett was his luck, but he seems to make the weight in a healthy manner and ca still perform.

Bellew was a huge weight-jumper and seemed to take a while to settle as a cruiser...….started as a heavyweight, reappeared as a light-heavy, then up to cruiser and finally late on went back up to heavyweight for the Haye paydays.

I think I have got this sequence vaguely right....sometimes it was all a bit bewildering

Personally I think Tony should have started as a cruiser and done the bulk of his work in the division but he's not done too badly and can watch Everton whenever he likes and his kids are well provided for.

Jake LaMotta started out as a light heavyweight.
Not sure if this would count, but Bob Fitzsimmons won the light heavyweight title after winning the heavyweight title.

Actually particularly interesting to note about that is the fact that the Light Heavyweight title didn't even exist when Fitz won the Heavyweight Title.

B-Hop started as a Light Heavy as well.

I agree. Maxim was rated in the top 10 at heavyweight in the Year-End ratings before he was at light heavyweight. He was in the top 10 at heavyweight from 1946-1948. He was not in the top 10 as a light heavyweight until 1949.

I'm well aware of Maxim's weight classes..
I just thought the topic meant fighters that moved down to a division they never started at as some of the fighters mentioned in earlier posts did...sorry some of you got your panties in a knot

Always thought that it was interesting that Armstrong won the welterweight title before the light weight title. For a short time, he was the featherweight champion and welterweight champion, but not the lightweight champion.
