Khan: Fans Lost Interest in Brook Fight, They Ask About Pacquiao

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Amir Khan believes the boxing public has lost interest in a potential domestic showdown with fellow former world champion Kell Brook.

Fans have been waiting for several years for this fight to happen.

Brook has been inactive since winning a tougher than expected decision over Michael Zerafa last December. He was scheduled to fight last month as part of the undercard to Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz, but he withdrew from the card.

He feels the fight with Pacquiao is now a much bigger event when compared to a grudge match with Brook.

“I don’t think it [the appetite for the Brook fight] is there anymore. Normally, I’d be walking around the streets and people would be talking about that fight, but now, people aren’t talking about that, they are talking about the Manny Pacquiao fight," Khan said to The Evening Standard.

“People have lost interest in that fight against Brook. There are rumours he’s retired, he’s not retired, I don’t know what he is doing with his career to be honest with you - I’m ready to let it go by, I’m not bothered about it.”

I think the reality is that nobody really cares who Khan fights but I'd be more interested in Brook.

TBH I think only people of Pakistani origin are interested in his career currently !

The Saudi episode was piss poor exploitation in my opinion.

Khans just talking, it’s part of his job, I don’t know why anyone takes it seriously, he’s not trying to con anyone, he’s just trying to get the best fights for himself at this stage of his career, his last fight was the best bit of business I’ve seen for ages.

I don’t think Pac has any interest in Khan unless he’s getting silly money for it.

He was paid guaranteed $10m against Thurman.

Saudi will easily match/beat that, just to get him there. But Khan will want something similar.

Manny's minimum when he was contracted to Top Rank was $20m.. Towards the end of that contract, Top Rank definately made a few losses.. Because Pac wasn't doing his near 1 mil buyrates anymore.

Khan was/is advised by Haymon. Don't see why it can't happen. Just like Khan is not fighting Brook, because there are bigger fights he is chasing, Pac isn't talking about Khan, because there are likely still other big fights for him too..

Khan might be Pac's last fight. Who knows?

Khan and Brook both wasted so much time chasing something that wasn't gonna happen. Shame on both for not concentrating on their careers and making fights happen by being busy and taking on the leading contenders to force the hand of the bigger names.

No money in the UK. Pacquiao will want a min $10m guaranteed or more, before any ppv revenue..

On top of that, Brook will want a career-high purse too..

If Hearn is making Pac-Brook, it's with DAZN money.. and tbh, it's not a fight that would appeal fans.

Brook's has his fan appealing fights in GGG and Spence. When he was still being talked about as a world champion. We are now 2 years on from when Brook was last actually even relevant.

The reality is fans lost interest in Khan quite a while back. I don't think there was even much interest in him getting beat up by Crawford was there?

Khan's just a character that keeps lingering around for whatever reason. Kinda like Broner. Hell have him fight Broner. Why not? At least it's a competitive matchup.

Why would a still elite world champ like Manny have any interest in fighting Amir ?

But then I suppose the same question could’ve been asked about the Crawford and Canelo fights.

Khan, Pacquiao and Brook are all far beyond their primes, so it makes physical sense for them to fight each other if nothing else. Create a best-of-the-rest belt and let them contest it.

They'd be on Mayweather's circuit if he were still active, like the 39-year-old Mosley and near-shot DLH.

Doesn't matter to me, personally. They're all at the same point in their careers, so although Khan-Brook would be years late, their playing field's still level. Either get on with it or don't, but the talking's done.

In fairness khan is still raking it in over in the SBL. Wouldn’t have thought Brook is a particularly big name over in Saudi, Pakistan, India etc where as Pac is a global star.

Good to see that Khan has all his marbles. Get Pac in Saudi....it an earner. There will always be an audience so good luck to him.
