Dillian Whyte Tests Positive For Banned Substance

Post by oogiebe »

Multiple sources have confirmed that an "A" sample taken from Dillian Whyte tested positive for one or more banned substances prior to Whyte's July 20 fight in London against Oscar Rivas. Although Whyte is in the World Boxing Council Clean Boxing Program which is administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA), the test in question was administered by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD).

The positive test result is believed to have come back on July 17. A knowledgeable source says that it was reported to the Whyte camp (including promoter Matchroom Boxing) and the British Boxing Board of Control by UKAD prior to Whyte-Rivas. However, the BBBC allowed the fight to proceed as scheduled.

Under rules in place in the United Kingdom, Whyte has a right of appeal. UKAD takes the position that, until the adjudication process is over and due process is complete, there has not been a finding that a fighter is in breach of its PED protocols and no sanctions can be put in place by the British Boxing Board of Control.

If true and they were aware of a failed test it's disgusting that the fight was still allowed to happen.

Maybe that's why he was so quiet the last days leading up to the fight. I'm surprised how different the protocols are in the UK. Had it been VADA, they would have been required to inform the WBC who would have removed their sanctioning. I'm shocked! Idiot if the subsequent adjudication comes back supporting the UKAD findings.

Disgraceful. I bet Andy Ruiz's camp is taking notice of this as well.

Under VADA and WBC, VADA would have had informed the WBC who then would pull their sanction. It's in their rules. But this was UKAD and the BBBoC.

UKAD are a total joke, we saw that after Fury failed his PED test. No great surprise that Whyte has failed though, given his history.

I'm flabbergasted that the fight was allowed to go on with no communication with Rivas' camp. They (Matchroom; UKAD; BBBoC) had the information three days before the fight. Maybe I'm jumping the gun.

I can only go by the article which only said that UKAD notified Matchroom and Matchroom notified Whyte's camp.

Assuming this is all true Eddie Hearn should lose his license. Given what happened to Dadashev at the weekend allowing a fighter into the ring doped up is a massive dereliction of duty and a subject which Hearn which has been vocal on previously.

If Matchroom didn't notify Rivas' camp, I would agree. It doesn't appear that they did, but the story has just broke, so we'll see.
