My understanding from the Hearn interview is that the venue needs to be approved by AJ. So that leads me to believe that the venue is NOT part of the contract explicitly. Not that Hearn can be trusted but it was the only time someone mentioned the venue part.

@ Ewanhay: He's not dumb enough to overlook the pertinent points in a rematch clause. If I'm wrong about that I'll come on here stark bollock naked :D

Eddie will have included the venue to be at AJ's option. The only doubt will be over whether AJ or EH win the argument. That isn't a contractual argument. Contractually the one who has no say is Ruiz.

If this isn't the case Hearn has been almost criminally negligent, and I don't regard that as a serious possibility.

True. We'd be naive to think it's an isolated incident. If Wilder tested HOT, I'd be just as outraged. TBH more disappointed too.

That would be the logical assumption. I'm just going by what he said in the IFL interview. Something like, the venue needs to be approved by AJ.

True but if this hasn't been covered in a legally watertight agreement then Eddie Hearn isn't half as smart as we both think he is. (I mean Eddie and I, not you and I :D )
Would he not be laying the hammer down if true?

Maybe he will. Always better convince someone using gentle persuasion ... not so gentle persuasion ... threats of legal action - and if that all fails ... then you bash 'em over the head with the hammer. :D

I think he’s playing nice at the moment. Andy Ruiz is immensely likeable, even over here in the UK he has won a fair few fans for his performance. I don’t think pitching Joshua as the big bad man who’s dictating terms and demanding everything etc would be a good story, especially given Joshua’s nice guy image.

If Ruiz has no choice in anything then why hasn't the rematch been announced then? And why does Ruiz clearly feel he has some skin in the game?

I think some might be being a bit presumptious.

TFKoB would not be balking if the contract was airtight.

That'll be me then. If I'm wrong I'll be back on here with a plate, a knife and fork, and a large helping of humble pie.

To answer your question the date has been announced ( maybe not officially) and probably Cardiff. AJ has expressed a preference for MSG but Eddie thinks UK is the more sensible option. That may be the root of the delay.

Ruiz still has a choice: He can honour his contract and become an even more wealthy man, or he can say 'fukc that' in which case he is likely to become a considerably more impoverished man.

No one. All we have is bits and pieces from interviews and statements. I don't see anything wrong with the discussion as it is a forum for that. That said, no one should be stating anything as fact, as you allude to.

I think it may not be specified the venue as a contractual clause. That's why the rematch isn't official
scheduled yet. Eddie is just talking his wish.

I don't think anyone has have they? I've made some assumptions based on another assumption that Hearn knows his job, does that count?

Sure it does. No one said Hearn doesn't know his job.

So if Hearn knows his job it's reasonable to assume that (being in the driver's seat offering Andy a shot at the title), he's going to remember to dot the 'I's and cross the 'T's when it comes to imposing the rematch clause (like he did much to Dillian Whyte's displeasure) ?

Of course we haven't seen the contract but I don't need to see the bank-vault to know I'm not going to be able to walk out with a rucksack full of gold ingots :D

Your assumption is fair. But if there is an ironclad rematch clause including location, then everything would be buttoned up in short order. None of us really know.

Boxing is a business. Andy Ruiz earns lots for rematching AJ. No other fight pays the sort of money he will earn,

Eddie Hearn is super smart btw but everybody will make mistakes as we all do.
