Hooker looked clumsy and awkward just shadow boxing before the fight.

He came out and immediately stumbled around the ring in the first round, and had a KD scored against him because he fell down like a newborn fawn when Ramirez stepped on his foot.

I tend to agree. Fighters are held up by the ropes too often. They fail to go down or take a knee and they take too many shots, defenselessly. Similar thing happened in the GTank v Nunez fight. Ref jumped in a bit quicker. Maybe the refs need to have the option of calling standing 8s again?

The refs are in a very tough spot at that point. Call it too early and face fan and industry hyper criticism. Too late and it is even worse, for all involved.

Fighters also seem too often to fail to take a knee at the right time to get the count to recover their senses. AJ takes a lot of criticism for his ring IQ, but when he got poleaxed by Wlad, he was intelligent enough to take a knee, regroup, and survive.

Too often, fighters get hurt, have the wits about them to make the mistake of staying on their feet in order to avoid the point loss of a KD, and they end up taking too much punishment.

I had it 48-46 Ramirez, but that was entirely due to the BS KD call in round 1. Without that call I had Hooker actually edging that round, which would have made my card through five 48-47 Hooker.

It was a great, close fight until the dramatic finish.

Btw, the ref should not be criticized for the BS KD. Hooker was such an off balance clutz in the first round that it was entirely his fault for the mistake, imo.
