True, but he had the skillset to take Jimmy even in Young's prime. The way he shook Jimmy seconds after the fight began, really amazing. And Young did say Greg hit harder than Gerry Cooney and Michael Dokes.
So?
So,....................Page was special, even Jimmy realized that.

Curry is my all time favorite fighter. Lloyd beat him fairly. I never understood how Lloyd loses to Vaca. The scoring was suspect but Lloyd was already slipping in hindsight.
Have mad respect for Donald Curry, special fighter, but he was lucky Milton McCrory didn't fight him in early 1983, or he would have been looking at an L. Emanuel Steward punked out.
I am biased but I think Curry beats Milton every time. Never saw anything in Milton’s game that impressed me. They touted him as the next Thomas Hearns. Nowhere close. His title competition was subpar. He never convincingly defeated Jones. Although he lasted longer than Curry against McCallum, Curry was beating Mike at the time of the left hook. Milton was brutalized. I always thought Milton seemed like a genuine good guy, just not the same class as Donald.

I hear you, definitely prime vs prime. But in that 1982-1983 time frame, I think pre-Jones McCrory could've beaten him, albeit in a close 15 fight. Curry was real good, but not the 1985 form. That would work in Milton's favor.

The Rage handled his business against George. Granted, they were tough fights, and I probably would be generous to say that #2 might have been a draw, but he didn't really beat Greg. And after Dokes beat him he fell off the map. Sad, but true. I know it hurts but you got to let it go man  :TU:

Junior Jones vs Marco Antonio Barrera 1+2

Jones stops the unbeaten Barrera in 5 rounds to become World Super Bantamweight champ, result was a DQ win for Jones as Barrera's corner stormed the ring, it was a fun fight Jones was sharp with the jab nailing Barrera with crisp right hands, Barrera tried to get in close and work the body of the taller Jones to try slow him down but he strayed low several times and could've had a point off, Barrera did have more success as the round went on but Jones always looked dangerous even in the exchanges where Barrera likes to fight up close Jones was getting off the better shots and getting the last word

Still a shock to see Jones drop Barrera heavily in the 5th round with a big right in an exchange, both men swing rights but Jones got his home first to deck Barrera and hurt him bad, Jones went in for the kill and got Barrera on the ropes and tagged him with lefts and rights cleanly to send him down again as the bell rang, Barrera's corner were in hasty to get to their man, whether they were trying to get to their man quick to get him back to corner but they might have been in before the bell sounded, Barrera was fvcked anyway, Jones was stunning him all night before he knocked him down

Jones wins the rematch by close UD to retain the title, another great fight albeit different from the first, Barrera was a lot more conservative in is work working the jab superbly, Jones jab was class as well and some of the exchanges were top drawer, Barrera working his way in and getting to the body of Jones who although was taller and quicker found himself being outboxed early on, Barrera lost a belated point for low blows in the 9th and it seemed to burst Jones into life who started to put his shots together with more urgency, nailing Barrera with some hard right crosses, it was nip/tuck to the bell but Jones late surge got him the win, could've went either way but Jones maybe just about doing enough to keep hold of his belt

Marco Antonio Barrera vs Paul Lloyd

Barrera absolutely ruins Lloyd in 1 round to retain his World Super Bantamweight title, Lloyd did make it out the round but only because of his incredible bravery, his corner rightly pulled him out, he took an absolute pounding in the short time it lasted, Barrera battered him with everything and barely missed a shot, sickening lefts to the body, right hands, hooks, lock, stock, the facking lot as they say, pretty insane that Barrera only managed to put Lloyd down once, he creased him with a left to the body which doubled Lloyd up and 2 rights from Barrera sent him down

As I say Lloyd done superb not to go down again but it was heavy artillery from Barrera until the end of the round, demolition job from Barrera

Marco Antonio Barrera vs Richie Wenton

Barrera stops Wenton after 3 rounds to win the vacant World Super Bantamweight title, the brave Wenton did make it to the end of the round after being dropped twice in the 3rd but he'd had enough and was pulled out, sterling effort from Wenton who could've made things easier for himself by using his legs and reach to try box Barrera and at least try to keep him on the outside but he chose to fight it out with Barrera which was never gonna end well, Wenton did catch Barrera with a couple of sneaky right hands but Barrera just brushed them off and walked through him, digging shots downstairs and combinations up top, typical MAB performance

Barrera finally dropped Wenton in the 3rd with a left hook to the liver, Wenton got up but was backed up onto the ropes when another left to the body had him down again, he just about made the count and bell ended the round but Wenton was done

Marco Antonio Barrera vs Prince Naseem Hamed

Barrera beats Hamed by UD over 12 rounds in a Featherweight contest, clear win for Barrera who dominated Naz from the start by outboxing him rather than dragging him into a brawl, jabbed him and worked the left hand beautifully, didn't focus much on the body for a change but had plenty success with left hooks and coming back with the left after the right, always getting first off and outworking Hamed for long spells who just didn't do enough to win

This is the first time I watched this since watching it live and at the time I remember Naz just going through the motions and that's still how I pretty much seen, he did land some quick southpaw jabs but he was all over the place and Barrera wobbled him a couple of times, mainly because Hamed's feet were all over the place, even in the later rounds it was Barrera who fought hardest, he did lose a point for slamming Naz into the turnbuckle in the last round

Marco Antonio Barrera vs Johnny Tapia

Barrera dominates Tapia in a 12 round Featherweight fight by UD, excellent controlled performance from Barrera, won the fight pretty much solely on the jab, it was perfection at times, he came out fast drilling Tapia with it controlling ring centre not allowing Tapia to come forward and get his combinations off, after a few rounds as Tapia continuesly pressed Barrera chose to outbox him on the backfoot , countering him with the jab and coming over with rights and hooks

Tapia as ever never stopped coming forward and a couple of occasions was able to get home some nice bursts but overall Barrera was in complete control of the fight and was never troubled, easy win and an excellent performance, a superb display of boxing, if there ever was a fight won on the jab it was this one

Marco Antonio Barrera vs Kevin Kelley

Barrera stops Kelley in the 4th of non title Featherweight match. not much resistance frim Kelley in all honesty, Barrera dropped him in the 1st with a nice right followed by a short left, Kelley wasn't badly hurt and in rounds 2 and 3 fought on equal terms, shooting off nice southpaw jabs and right hooks

In the 4th Barrera sent Kelley down with a right hand, looked partially blocked but he went down regardless, a Barrera barrage had him down again, again it was a cuffing right hand which scored the KD, Kelley got up but looked like he wanted out, the ref never got the signals and when Barrera laid into Kelley on the ropes the ref stepped in

Marco Antonio Barrera vs Paulie Ayala

Barrera stops Ayala in the 10th of a non title Featherweight fight, absolute masterclass from him, Ayala never won a round, his tactics mustve been to try outbox Barrera on the outside hoping his southpaw stance would offset Barrera but from the opening bell Barrera comfortably outboxed him and Ayala nevr tried to change things up and just continued all night to get picked apart and dismantled

Barrera's jab was excellent again as was the straight right, working the left hook to the body, just textbook stuff and pure class, Barrera put Ayala down twice in the 8th, both times with lefts to the body, the finish in the 10th was straight out the top drawer, 6 punch combo, right hand, left uppercut, left jab, right cross, left hook finished off with a left hook to the body to put Ayala away for good, quality finishing

Marco Antonio Barrera vs Mzonke Fana

Barrera absolutely starches Fana in 2 rounds to retain his World Super Featherweight title, Fana was the taller man and tried to get on his jab but he was hopelessly out of his depth, shook several times in the 1st by Barrera's array of punches, you knew it wasn't gonna end well especially when Barrera was able to outjab him, he wobbled Fana with a right and came over with a clipping left before a massive right sent him down and out , the ref never even bothered to count, Barrera oozing class again

Marco Antonio Barrera vs Rocky Juarez 1+2

Barrera beats the game Juarez by SD to retain his World Super Featherweight title, it was originally announced as a draw before Barrera was declared the winner, cracking fight, a fight of 2 halves, Barrera dominated the early goings with the jab and fast combinations, Juarez took until the second half to get going but once he did he was able to unsettle Barrera and get to work up close, both men put in some great inside work, landing to the body and working upstairs, Barrera worked hard to keep ahead of the fight and deserved his win

Barrera wins the rematch by UD to retain his title, a lot more comfortable win this time around, he was a lot more switched on and he kept the same pace up this time and never allowed Juarez to regain any ground, his jab again was key, constantly snapping it into the face of Juarez and using it to set up the right hand. all the while circling Juarez and peppering him with shots, it wasn't as action packed as the first fight but it was a more clever display of boxing this time around from Barrera, Juarez knew he had to start faster this time but after a promising start he fizzled out and was widely outboxed

Juan Manuel Marquez vs Marco Antonio Barrera

Marquez beats Barrera by a harshly wide UD to become World Super Featherweight champ, it was a close fight where pretty much every round was closely contested, 2 world class boxers pitting their wits against each other, it was a chess match at times, both careful not to make a mistake and let the other pounce, both guys are textbook as they come, leading off and countering, the action ebbed and flowed

Marquez hurt Barrera with a right in the 7th but after coming through Barrera then decked Marquez with a perfect jab/right hand but then hit Marquez while he was on his knee, not only did the ref not score the KD he took a point off Barrera which in the end didn't cost him as the scores were wide. it broke out into a trade off now and again. both men unwilling to give an inch but it was Marquez who got the win, not a robbery but the scores were poor

I was at that fight and most of the folks who were at it did agree with the fairly wide scores. It was very surprising that HBO had it to Barrera but then again, they were very biased.

I personally feel Marquez won 8 rounds in the fight.

Nigel Benn vs Anthony Logan

Benn stops Logan in 2 rounds to retain
his Commonwealth Middleweight title batshit crazy fight, Benn came out like a man possessed as if it was the last round and he was trailing on the cards, he threw the kitchen sink at Logan but he was wreckless and Logan was getting through with some smart counters despite being under heavy fire, Logan dropped Benn with a perfect right hand but the ref ruled it a slip

It was Logan who came out for the 2nd looking the boss and he was having no trouble finding the target, he stunned Benn with a right then followed with a 20 odd punch barrage with Benn in serious trouble before Benn pulled out a left hook out of nowhere to deck Logan and win the fight, no doubt Logan was hurt but the ref a bit quick to wave it off, Benn showing why he was always dangerous when hurt
