Toney-McCallum II is a scoring nightmare. Toney landing the harder shots, McCallum keeping on letting his hands go. Really classy stuff, a level above the fights we get these days. The old quality/consistency or power/ring generalship split, with Brits not liking it and Americans perhaps leaning to Toney. however, the Yank commentator who did the international feed prefered McCallum, but Toney had seemingly offended him the week before the fight. Holdsworth had MM winning, but HBO's Lederman felt Toney was landing all the meaningful shots.Terence wrote:I'm doing something on Toney and have wrote-up and sent 1991 but wanted to get some fan input for the controversial fights Toney had in 1992. I'd be interested to hear them to provide a good counter balance to my own scorecards (had Toney winning McCallum II, need to score Tiberi again but had Toney in a tight spot when I first watched it).

one judge (or was it 2) had toney lie 118-110, which was nonsense & probably had more to do with the gap left by tyson, with toney's badass mouth grabbing ppl's affections
there is a great article by Greg Smith at boxingranks.com, called Toney vs McCallum I & II: High Art & Controversial Scoring which has a good take on it. I disagreed with Katz, who called it a "dull duel of left hands".
Toney-Tiberi is most ppl's idea of an awful robbery. Toney was badly weight drained for the fight, as he would be vs Jones. I'll have to watch that fight, though watching a lethargic version of toney is not much fun
