Carlos Baldomir Sentenced To 18 Years in Sex Abuse Case

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Former WBC welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Wednesday for the repeated sexual abuse of one of his daughters, a court in Santa Fe announced.

The 48-year-old, who reigned as WBC champion in 2006, was arrested in 2016 following allegations by his ex-wife that he had abused his daughter between 2012 and 2014, when she was seven to eight years old.

He was unanimously convicted of “repeated sexual abuse” of a minor.

The sentence was read out behind closed doors to protect the identity of the victim. Prosecutors had sought a 20-year sentence.

When the trial began on Thursday, Baldomir showed his middle finger to those present, a gesture recorded by television cameras.

When the accusations came down against him, Baldomir was living with his current wife and four-year-old son. He has three daughters from his first marriage.

Unfortunately he didn’t die in the ring first.

Nope.
If that idea were true ALL boxers would be a menace to society and/ or themselves.

Bernard Hopkins was a menace to society before he spent decades taking punches to the head. By all accounts he is no longer that person despite all the punches to the head.

Being in that gym, taking those punches is what keeps some of them off the streets and out of trouble.

CTE is a real degenerative disease caused by repetitive head trauma that can and does lead to aggressive and unpredictable behavior in the afflicted.

I am not saying that CTE is the specific cause of Baldomir’s offenses.

Peoples brains react differently. You have guys die/be vegetables/slurr badly after not that much long term punishment, whereas a guy like Chuvalo took absolute loads but was still clear and well spoken in his late age. Getting your brain bashed can definitely impact ppl mentally , not saying this had any impact specifically on Baldomir though.

That’s not how evidence is used to prove a case. Very little is all or nothing.

Whilst CTE can obviously alter a person’s behaviour and mental state I would be loathe to even consider that as a reason for such a vile crime...

..whether it's CTE or something else, I'm not gonna buy it as an excuse for such a heinous crime..

Ya I think not many people really are making excuses for him, but it's simply true that CTE can mess up minds. That doesnt; mean it does to everyone, that doesnt mean it excuses bad stuff, that doesnt mean it happened to Carlos the nonce here ,etc

I'm not sure what to think here. A court has convicted him but that does not mean he is guilty.

I had a gut feeling when reading this thread that something was off. I started to look around for some reporting on it but it is all basically trash out there from recent articles. They talk more about his boxing career than any parts of the trial. I wound up reading some older articles from around the arrest time and found more information than the current stuff provides.

He has 3 daughters....one of the articles was speculating that it was a daughter who was 14 in 2016. That one would have to be older than the one talked about being 7-8 in 2012-2014. I'm no expert on this type of sicko shit but it doesn't make sense to me for some perv who would mess with a 7-8 year old to not be messing with the other daughters too. Abusing 1 of 3 is much more shady than if he were convicted for abusing them all. If you are an asshole abuser who stoops that low to abuse your own 7 or 8 year old daughter how is he not stooping all over the place? If he is doing this shit at all and for 2 whole years he is totally out of control sexually and mentally. How is he in control of himself at all the other times around the others?

His ex wife reports him quite a ways after the period of time. He has another woman and a son with the other woman during that time. We all know how splits can get with people. The mother here is also admitting some ignorance for herself as she didn't notice anything for a long period of abuse. Mother and daughter...she should be giving her baths at that age and talking to her about anything seen and just stuff in general. To me it is negligent for any parent not to know if someone is abusing their kid even if it is the other parent. You just arent doing your job if you don't figure that stuff out and stop it right away.

Now to him flipping off everybody there before the trial. Doesn't seem like a guy who is guilty or scared of being called guilty by the court. It is like telling them to F off for even having to be there to answer to them. The guy is not said anywhere to be admitting to guilt. I did read some reports where he was talking about losing a bunch of his money at the casino and letting the wild life cause him to lose his wife and kids. It was basically apologetic and admitting wrong. He was showing remorse for being a lousy husband and father. That shows me something about him to be frank like that about his own mistakes.

I would like to know more about this trial and the evidence. All these current articles lack any substance in them. I see a whole lot of circumstances around this that are at least semi suspicious and possible motive to try and destroy him.

Don't get me wrong. If he did this shit I hope he has the most miserable 18 years imaginable. But I also hope that the guy didn't get railroaded.

People need to stop making excuses for him.

Throw away the key. What an absolute disgrace of a human being.

So this guy reached elite status in sport of boxing. He earned millions. Then he abuse his own daughter and going to prison. Probably money and fame is not a key to happy life.
