Shame on Fury for wanting a big paycheck, such an outlier in professional sports![]()
No is arguing Fury playing it safe. He's also playing it like every other major player in 2019. He can get Wilder, Ruiz, or AJ early next year and he's making big money in the meantime. He's also fought Klitschko and Wilder, twice facing the best in the world. You can "honestly doubt" all you'd like, but the mans track record shites on that.![]()

The only American he could fight to generate sales outside of wilder is big baby. Hes a cheat but so if fury and miller is a good self promoter. Obviously he was deemed too dangerous so they went for a creampuff

Miller is only currently licensed to box in Illinois. I highly doubt any state would license him before his 6 month slap on the wrist is up.Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑02 Aug 2019, 20:46 The only American he could fight to generate sales outside of wilder is big baby. I wouldn't have minded so much had his last opponent been a tough go, but two in a row at this level is appalling. Neither helps Fury prep for a big fight. Does nothing but pad his pocketbook. Another must miss.
I agree. Two unfair fights in a row, and Schwarz got hurt too. For a legit stay busy fight get some guy who fights middle level opponents, not opponents ranked #200 and below. Or else just sell tickets to a sparring exhibition. I complained about Wilder's padded record, and now this.

I just think the timing was wrong to get a much better opponent. Oogie skipped this because he couldn't think of anyone so I'll ask you:Ilya Muromets wrote: ↑02 Aug 2019, 20:56I agree. Who would you have him fight?
Whyte is suspended. Miller is basically suspended. Ruiz and AJ are tied up. Wilder and Ortiz are tied up. Rivas just fought. Washington just fought. Helenius just fought. Kownacki is tied up. Pulev is trying to force the IBF's hand and wants Ruiz. Povetkin is fighting Hughie. Parker fought recently and is supposedly getting Chisora next, who Fury's already beaten twice. Price just fought. He already beat Hammer. Martin just fought. Joyce just fought. Hrgovics got a fight. Takam maybe if he isn't retired? Marco Huck? Adamek? There aren't a whole heck of a lot of options for a keep busy fight at the moment.
Re: Tyson Fury vs. Otto Wallin - September 14, 2019
Wilder faced stiffs for a long long time. His last two years have been better for sure. AJ has faced good levels and Whyte (PED issue aside) has faced arguably the best comp in the last couple of years. Fury has been the worst.Ilya Muromets wrote: ↑02 Aug 2019, 20:56

Aren't you the whip, punchy! I didn't skip it. I answered by saying that they had longer than six weeks to make a fight. They had from the Schwarz fight until now to make a good fight. It's their own fault for taking so damn long as well as making a date announcement with no opponent. That will always have the makings of a shit fight. And it has. So what is it? A stay busy fight? or a lack of time to make a good one. Make up your mind.punchoutsb wrote: ↑02 Aug 2019, 21:01I just think the timing was wrong to get a much better opponent. Mostly you're mentioning top guys. He just wants a "stay busy" fight, so go through the mid level Boxrec list. There are a lot of names, tho they have Wallin ranked #48 I don't know why. He's never even fought anyone ranked higher than 201. Brezeale, Takam, Molina, Lucas Browne, lots more, all would be more legitimate opponents.
Re: Tyson Fury vs. Otto Wallin - September 14, 2019
Great points, but Fury wanted a soft touch. Most of the guys you mention would've jumped at the opportunity to face Fury for a big payday. Even Trevor Bryan would've been a better opponent. They also could've procured a date after Miller's ban had ended and faced him, not that I think the fat cheat deserves it.Ilya Muromets wrote: ↑02 Aug 2019, 21:11punchoutsb wrote: ↑02 Aug 2019, 21:01

Takam would have been a good choice...is he still fighting? Breazeale almost got executed a little over two months ago. Browne is a terrible fight, probably one of the few I'd rather see Wallin over.Ilya Muromets wrote: ↑02 Aug 2019, 21:11punchoutsb wrote: ↑02 Aug 2019, 21:01

Boxing fans like to bitch, and anyone on the mid-level of boxrec would illicit such bitching. No one from the mid-level of boxrec will give the "good fight" that fans want.

Certainly Price; Povetkin; Parker; Washington; Joyce; Chisora? I'd even bet that Hrgovic's fight wasn't set yet, and even if it was, his own crappy opponent would've taken step aside money. How about trying for Pulev and not assuming he's hyper focused on the IBF shot. The fact is that Fury's camp somehow managed to have their second fight under top rank against another soft touch. I'm sure that Top rank is thrilled about that.

Price was "certainly" not available as he and Allen were announced 4 days after Fury/Schwarz. Parker had fought Leapai about two weeks before Fury/Schwarz. Washington/Helenius was announced the week of Fury/Schwarz. Joyce was in training camp and just fought about two weeks ago. Fury has already beat Chisora twice. Povetkin may have been available. Pulev was suspended for kissing a reporter AND has formally petitioned the IBF so there's no assumption to be made.
The fact is there were very few feasible options even if you go back to the day after Fury/Schwarz.

Only the WBA suspended him because he wasn't licensed in any states to box and so they couldn't take action. The fact that all the rating bodies unanimously dumped him is just about the closest thing I've seen to solidarity in boxing.Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑02 Aug 2019, 21:35 Not to go down a rabbit whole but didnt just the wba suspend him? Re: Tyson Fury vs. Otto Wallin - September 14, 2019
You're not wrong, but NYSAC won't give him a license even though he wasn't licensed when he failed the test. It was a technicality which probably ticks off the commission. It won't look very good for any state to license him before the six months is over. But yes, it could happen.Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑02 Aug 2019, 21:35 Not to go down a rabbit whole but didnt just the wba suspend him? If a state commission suspended him than i agree he wasnt possible
