Boxing VAR
Why not... It wouldn't take as long as it does in Football..
Shouldn't really cost much.. All we're doing is checking quick highlights.
Thoughts?

Video shows Paddy Gallagher should have been awarded British title win?
There has been plenty of debate surrounding the scoring of Paddy Gallagher’s British and Commonwealth title challenge on Saturday night, but there is a new ground swell of opinion that claims the clash should never have even gone to the judges scorecard.
The fight scheduled for 12 was stopped in the ninth round after a cut over the left eye of British welterweight champion Chris Jenkins was deemed to dangerous for him to be allowed to continue.
Having ruled the cut came from a clash of heads earlier in the fight rather than being opened by a Gallagher punch the referee put the result in the judges hands.
All three judges scored the fight 86-85, a card that gave Jenkins the win by technical decision.
Post the fight a disgusted Gallagher bemoaned the decision feeling he had won enough of the eight rounds to be handed the win and the British and Commonwealth titles as a result.
The 30-year-old, who was uncharacteristically irate during his post fight interviews, didn’t complain about the manner in which the fight was stopped nor did he mention the fact he felt he opened up the cut.
However, those not part of the massive 10,000 plus crowd that were consuming the fight on BT Sports, were claimed the cut over the left eye came as a result of a solid jab.
A video has since emerged, but while it shows a shot opened the cut over the Welsh fighters right eye it doesn’t offer substantial proof the cut over the left came in the same manner.
There have been suggestions that the BT and ESPN footage will settle the debate with a host revealing the stations showed replays proving Gallagher should have won.
However, the fight has yet to be put up on line.
Robbed.
At the very least ‘The Pat Man’ would deserve a rematch, but Jenkins has mandatory obligations for both belts and an immediate return would prove difficult to make.
Regardless of the eventual outcome this incident may open a boxing style VAR debate with regard to cuts.

Even if it’s proved Gallagher was hard done by it may only serve to worsen the feeling of injustice. There is precedent were a result has been over turned in similar circumstances.2 clean punches.

Re: Boxing VAR
Two immediate recent examples of where this would have been useful was Liam Smith Vs Liam Williams I and Whyte/Parker, where Whyte won the fight effectively due to a headbutt being counted as a knockdown.

Re: Boxing VAR
The Whyte one is difficult in most sports someone has to appeal for VAR. Parker didn’t know what hit him and no one saw it was a head clash, not even his corner, so they wouldn’t have gone to VAR
Re: Boxing VAR
It wont ever happen. How would the home town fighter get any advantages if VAR was in place?

Then they should have 2-3 members sat backstage with 2-3 different angles of the ring. Feeding information via earpiece to the ref in the ring.danconnollyeire wrote: ↑05 Aug 2019, 13:07The Whyte one is difficult in most sports someone has to appeal for VAR. I watched Marquez vs Barrera the other day, 1st time i'd actually seen it, my mums sky plus never recorded it and I was gutted, that was years before I had a computer, anyway some of you might remember Barrera decked Marquez with a perfect right hand but then hit him when he was down, the ref Jay Nady missed the KD and took a point off Barrera, Jim Lampley mentioned in commentary something about boxing being years behind most other sports by not having video replay and that was 12 years ago, I reckon we need it for some cases like cuts and knockdowns, you've got to feel for Paddy Gallagher

That was a mare of a call by Nady, a real bozo no no, it was as clear of a right hand as it gets

Re: Boxing VAR
Its strange though. When they want to do something they will. No one likes Rigo, so when he beat Moises, HBO’s Lampley and the rest of them made a big ass fuss for about 30 mins on air, even bringing in NSAC’s Bob Bennett (maybe cuz they had to kill time before Ward-Kovalev II).. the KO was originally given, but HBO team was not letting it go. Eventually, week later or so, got changed to a No Contest.handsofstone wrote: ↑05 Aug 2019, 15:54 I watched Marquez vs Barrera the other day, 1st time i'd actually seen it, my mums sky plus never recorded it and I was gutted, that was years before I had a computer, anyway some of you might remember Barrera decked Marquez with a perfect right hand but then hit him when he was down, the ref Jay Nady missed the KD and took a point off Barrera, Jim Lampley mentioned in commentary something about boxing being years behind most other sports by not having video replay and that was 12 years ago, I reckon we need it for some cases like cuts and knockdowns, you've got to feel for Paddy Gallagher
So when there’s an agenda or when they WANT to do something, they will.
Re: Boxing VAR
Why would any promoter or governing body want to make the fights fairer?
Won’t happen soon. Or maybe they could only use it when it benefits their man.

Re: Boxing VAR
Well, at least as a start, they could use it for calls related to something fight ending. Like a cut, potentially illegal punch that was ruled a KO, etc. Part of the process would be clarifying what/when/how often it could be used, and certainly I don't think it should be not used simply because there are hypotheticals in which it gets used way too often and stops fights wayy too much
That said, it would have to actually be used appropriately too and not selectively or just for show. I remember they used it for Murray-Martinez in Argentina, and somehow still decided that Murray did not score a second knockdown when it looked pretty clear to me that he had.

Re: Boxing VAR
Gallagher was robbed by Howard Foster.
It was a clean punch that busted Jenkins open.
Foster was 1 yard away with clear view and stopped the action 10secs later to check for 1st time.
For Jenkins and Lockett to still say it was a headclash is embarrassing. The footage is clear as crystal.

VAR is in a lot of sports now and people always asked those question. The answer is obviously not everything, it'd be limited. Just look at football, rugby, tennisShadrachSimmo wrote: ↑06 Aug 2019, 01:23 Where would it end though. Replays for low blows, spitting out gumshields..![]()

Re: Boxing VAR
That's the point
The bodies who govern other point are generally not huge money making organisations
The wbc, mathroom etc are... and money makers don't tend to care much for fairness... they care for money
Re: Boxing VAR
Yep. Let's suck the life and soul out of boxing as well.

Re: Boxing VAR
Not read if this had been mentioned but We wouldn’t even need to pause the contest to check if a head clash caused a cut. Keep fighting and during the interval someone tells the ref whether it was a hesdclash or a punch that caused it. I don’t know if there’s a rule that the fighters have to be informed too but I’d be in favour of this part of the game at least being subject to video ref.

Re: Boxing VAR
i think big time, as there is nothing worse than seeing a real bad decision in boxing, but boxing is a sport which people score differently , i had tyson on points couple rds against wilder, but brother an old man thought the draw was fair as wilder put down tyson a couple of times which i get, so it would be interesting to see, but iam for it
