Whyte vs. Rivas PPV Buys

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Did less than 280k..

His worst buy rate. Understandable.

He went from Parker to Chisora 2 to Rivas.

I bought it. Enjoyed the undercard, and the main event was a lot more compelling than I expected.
There was a bit of competition on that weekend, but no regrets on my part.
Lately Whyte has given us some good fights. His second fight with Chisora was as good as the first, especially the KO leaving no doubt like the first one, and Rivas really "brought it" on the night.

I'm surprised it did any buys. You couldn't have sold me this card for 10 dollars. I did enjoy it though...for free

Maybe it's whyte. I never believed the hype of Dill as a PPV star.

Of course not. PPV stars are Champions. Not mid Top 10 contenders who can never win a World title

I mean is less than 280k a number like 250k? Or did it do around 50k?

Let’s call it around 280k

Whyte is a very solid but at the same time unspectacular HW who hasn't even fought for a title. He's done very well for himself if 280k on PPV is being talked about like some poor number for him.

I wouldn't usually expect guys like Whyte to be PPV fighters at all, let alone doing well enough that 280kvs Osc Rivas is talked about negatively. TBH, when rumors were on about it tanking, I was expecting much lower.

It’s reasonable considering Rivas out with Boxing fans would be complete unknown to casual market.

I think how Hearn's brought through Whyte is probably his biggest failing as a promoter, he created a monster, having him headline PPVs despite never even having fought for a world title, its Eddie's fault Whyte got greedy in negotiations for the Joshua rematch

Or maybe the timing of Whyte's cycle was all wrong for that fight

It was never going to do massive numbers, even Hearn admitted that.

280000 buys at £20 a pop will still generate a sizable amount of money.

Couple that with about 12000 tickets sold and I'm sure Dillian got paid well enough, I'm sure Matchroom and Sky turned a tidy profit too.

I would say having Chisora-Szpilka and Price-Allen on the undercard helped a lot.

That was to do with ticket sales. The tix prices where quite high.

£20 on PPV will always be cheaper.

I said the exact same thing after he fought Parker. He started demanded high purses. Sky/Matchroom could only give him a £1m guarantee, so anything more, they would need PPV and rinse the fans. He’s lucky his first PPV fight was with Parker, Parker who had just fought AJ a few months earlier. So he was known to the public even more.

Whyte has a lot to thank Chisora for, both the great fights with him and the two explosive Chisora KO's on his undercard.

Not surprising numbers. The fact it got so many buys is more to do with Hearn’s ability to sell snake oil than the worthiness of the card.

Chisora and Allen/Price helped the with the buys but that's all part of an undercard I suppose.
I know alot of people that were Intrigued with Allen and Price so bought the card or wanted to watch it.

Yeh. Whyte NEEDS a decent undercard to help with the buys. Against Parker he had Chisora. Against Chisora (rematch), he had Charlie ‘fkin’ Edwards. Not sure how many paid to see that. But I guess Whyte-Chisora II was already sold to fans after their first fight. People knew it would pick up where it left.
