Sugar Ray Leonard was dull.
Someone on the British forum has just described Sugar Ray Leonard as "very fast but dull."

Bobby Charlton was an OK socccer player but nothing special, really. In the end he just kicked the ball around.

Yeah, I agree.bennie wrote:Someone on the British forum has just described Sugar Ray Leonard as "very fast but dull."

So were Bobby Chacon, John Mugabi, Aaron Pryor and Mike Tyson.

actually, i was making it up. can't believe you've done a whole thread on this! though when he had his running shoes onhe could be infuriating (i hated the duran rematch, and frankly, he wasn't doing too much in the first 6 rds vs hearns)bennie wrote:Someone on the British forum has just described Sugar Ray Leonard as "very fast but dull."

Round six of the first fight is one of the greatest rounds of all time.viciousmaussa wrote:actually, i was making it up. can't believe you've done a whole thread on this! though when he had his running shoes onhe could be infuriating (i hated the duran rematch, and frankly, he wasn't doing too much in the first 6 rds vs hearns)bennie wrote:Someone on the British forum has just described Sugar Ray Leonard as "very fast but dull."

hearns 1, though he had lots of quiet spots in the 2nd one also interspersed with the odd explosive atackCollins2000 wrote:First or second fight, mr shitty dick?viciousmaussa wrote:actually, i was making it up. can't believe you've done a whole thread on this! though when he had his running shoes onhe could be infuriating (i hated the duran rematch, and frankly, he wasn't doing too much in the first 6 rds vs hearns)bennie wrote:Someone on the British forum has just described Sugar Ray Leonard as "very fast but dull."

very little punching. i'll bet ppl were shcoked at the time. being that he was called 'sugar' you'd think he would've found a quicker way of adjusting to the superior reach of hearnssilkov wrote:Its called boxing actually!viciousmaussa wrote:ok, the first 5 then, feint and runbennie wrote: Round six of the first fight is one of the greatest rounds of all time.

Well he did actually win the fight didnt he?.... does the fact that he had a tough time against Hearns make him dull though?? 8)viciousmaussa wrote:very little punching. i'll bet ppl were shcoked at the time. being that he was called 'sugar' you'd think he would've found a quicker way of adjusting to the superior reach of hearnssilkov wrote:Its called boxing actually!viciousmaussa wrote:ok, the first 5 then, feint and run

nah, you've taken the dull bit too far, that was actually a joke. hearns was one of the best long reach fighters ever, and srl deserves props for findign a way. but i don't like to see that much posing. i think a lot of times he was trying just to look cool, to ave face for the fact that for massive stretches he couldn't get near himsilkov wrote:Well he did actually win the fight didnt he?.... does the fact that he had a tough time against Hearns make him dull though?? 8)viciousmaussa wrote:very little punching. i'll bet ppl were shcoked at the time. being that he was called 'sugar' you'd think he would've found a quicker way of adjusting to the superior reach of hearnssilkov wrote: Its called boxing actually!![]()
.... were his fights with Duran and Benitez dull in your humble opinion?...
i don't think the fight wa a masterpiece of feint-counterfeint, as ralph wiley would have it

So you don't think that he was actually letting Hearns tire himself out?...viciousmaussa wrote:nah, you've taken the dull bit too far, that was actually a joke. hearns was one of the best long reach fighters ever, and srl deserves props for findign a way. but i don't like to see that much posing. i think a lot of times he was trying just to look cool, to ave face for the fact that for massive stretches he couldn't get near himsilkov wrote:Well he did actually win the fight didnt he?.... does the fact that he had a tough time against Hearns make him dull though?? 8)viciousmaussa wrote:very little punching. i'll bet ppl were shcoked at the time. being that he was called 'sugar' you'd think he would've found a quicker way of adjusting to the superior reach of hearns![]()

personally I've often though that the stoppage was a bit premature for such a big fight... any one agree with me?... disagree??

I agreee with you Silkov that the fight was stopped a little bit premature. The same was with Benitez when the fight was stopped.silkov wrote:[So you don't think that he was actually letting Hearns tire himself out?...

Re: Sugar Ray Leonard was dull.
Yeah I've often though that, true, both hearns and Benitez seemed 'out' on their feet but in such a big fight you'd think they would have been given more of a chance. In the hearns fight it was very close to the end of the round wasn't it?.... maybe Tommy could have recovered between rounds for the last... and he was ahead on points.elmersalsa wrote:I agreee with you Silkov that the fight was stopped a little bit premature. Strangely I don't recall Hearns ever saying that the fight was stopped too early!..... did he ever mention the stoppage in this way?...
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard was dull.
i think once you take hearns through hell, there's a point of no return where he's simply done. he was a great boxer, an awesome hitter, but his body wasn't built for taking punishment. hearns looked beaten, silkov wrote:Yeah I've often though that, true, both hearns and Benitez seemed 'out' on their feet but in such a big fight you'd think they would have been given more of a chance. didn't SRL insist the rematch be 12 rounds? if so, that was a bad call. i know he must;ve been glad to finish such a hard fight. but he had hearns battered at least 3 or 4 times - especially in the last round. in terms of rds i did have TH winning though
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard was dull.
Well remember Hearns had Ray down twice...didnt one of the judges award Suger a round 10-8 even though Hearns didnt go down?.... I seem to remember that. I think Hearns was robbed in the rematch...viciousmaussa wrote:i think once you take hearns through hell, there's a point of no return where he's simply done. he was a great boxer, an awesome hitter, but his body wasn't built for taking punishment. hearns looked beaten, silkov wrote:Yeah I've often though that, true, both hearns and Benitez seemed 'out' on their feet but in such a big fight you'd think they would have been given more of a chance. Re: Sugar Ray Leonard was dull.
oh, i think hearns won the fight. he kept srl on the end of his jab for too long, plus the kds - even if one of the KDs looked suspect. leonard deserved at least one 10-8 round, he did have a few big rds but not enough. he def had hearns falling to pieces at the end however. strangely, that's one of my fave leonard fightssilkov wrote:Well remember Hearns had Ray down twice...didnt one of the judges award Suger a round 10-8 even though Hearns didnt go down?.... He was still standing though... I'm not saying he would have recovered but he could have been given more of a chance to get over it... for such a big fight it was quite an abrupt stoppage...Seamus wrote:C'mon now, Leonard v Hearns I stopped prematurely ?
