Matchroom boxing stable size
Matchroom boxing stable size
I was looking through the Matchroom stable on the website today and realised that Matchroom simply have to many fighters to keep them all active. The amount of fighters I saw that I haven’t seen box in ages was incredible. The following have been inactive and have no fight lined up or heavily rumoured to happen. I’m not saying they all deserve to fight on Matchroom shows, but they either need to be given fights or have their contracts terminated.
Jake Ball
Reece Bellotti
Dmitry Bivol !!!
Kell Brook (apparently his choice)
Paul Butler
Scott Cardle
Jamie Cox
Rocky fielding
Daniel Jacobs
Callum Johnson
Scott Quigg
Anthony Sims Jr
Stephen smith
Jessie Vargas
Gamal yafai
They are showing no sign of stopping signing fighters (eg Conway, fury, bakole). Just wanted some thoughts about whether Matchroom should let their stable continue to grow or cut down on numbers. It wouldn’t be such a problem if they weren’t so reluctant to let fighters fight on other shows.

Re: Matchroom boxing stable size
Hell if they're under contract with you, even if they fight on another show it's not like you're not getting a substantial cut of that money. I'm sure Eddie made out fine with Canelo vs Fielding.
Re: Matchroom boxing stable size
With the amount of fighters Eddie has, he should want others to give them fights so that he doesn’t have to worry about keeping everyone busy
Re: Matchroom boxing stable size
While it seemed good at the time, this deal with DAZN has left a few guys at Matchroom out in the cold so to speak. Matchroom need more shows, even if they don't get televised, just to keep these guys busy.
York Hall should be booked monthly.

Re: Matchroom boxing stable size
Hearn is too focussed on USA right now. Most UK boxers are fighting there.. we get the same old here..
Re: Matchroom boxing stable size
They shouldn't need to put fighters on other people's shows, they have an exclusive contract with Sky ffs.
But there hasn't been a Saturday fight night on Sky since April, since then their has only been PPVs and Nxt Gens.
PPVs have limited slots and Nxt Gens don't generate the money to put any high level fights on.

With the amount of shows Hearn has he doesn't really have an excuse to not give fighters a run out in the middle of a Matchroom (insert foreign country) show against a fighter from that place

Glasgow/Liverpool/Newcastle/London - Sept/Oct so that should get a lot out in new season.keirw wrote: ↑08 Aug 2019, 17:52 They shouldn't need to put fighters on other people's shows, they have an exclusive contract with Sky ffs.

Liam Smith & 1 other are on Mexico 24th card.

Lot of that list is injured though ?Joel2 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2019, 16:29 I was looking through the Matchroom stable on the website today and realised that Matchroom simply have to many fighters to keep them all active. Cox - was on Italy show and injured.
Fielding - was on MTK and got inured.
Quigg - hand injury.
Cardle/Ball/Bellotti - considering boxing futures.
Jacobs - Twice a year fighter moving to SMW.
Re: Matchroom boxing stable size
I would certainly hope so, doesn't explain why recent coverage has been so poor though.3132DW wrote: ↑09 Aug 2019, 01:28Glasgow/Liverpool/Newcastle/London - Sept/Oct so that should get a lot out in new season.keirw wrote: ↑08 Aug 2019, 17:52 They shouldn't need to put fighters on other people's shows, they have an exclusive contract with Sky ffs.

Yeh and that April card we had Dave Allen headlining! He’s fought since as well.Boxing Prospect wrote: ↑09 Aug 2019, 01:04 With the amount of shows Hearn has he doesn't really have an excuse to not give fighters a run out in the middle of a Matchroom (insert foreign country) show against a fighter from that place
The UK fighters don’t hold many belts as they did in 2016 when most where won Vacant.
Re: Matchroom boxing stable size
It does to a certain degree - a lot of UK fighters have been taking the money in the US.
Burns v Selby/Linares - Callum Smith etc....money wouldn’t have been there to put these on in UK as Sat night cards (non PPV) until Sky & Matchroom have obviously put more money in the pot to make better Sat night cards when they met.
Take the offer the Callum Smith for unification with Billy Joe - that was on par with what Smith got to fight N’Jikam on AJ undercard - so you can see why we can’t get cards here if these guys are getting good monies in the US.
You couldn’t pay Callum Smith - let’s say £500k plus opponent and undercard without losing your shirt hosting the event.

Another anti-Headn thread. Didn't see that coming.
Re: Matchroom boxing stable size
Very good point, maybe just stream them on YouTube or something
Re: Matchroom boxing stable size
I’m fairly sure those 3 are all ready to start camp again after injury.3132DW wrote: ↑09 Aug 2019, 01:32Lot of that list is injured though ?Joel2 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2019, 16:29 I was looking through the Matchroom stable on the website today and realised that Matchroom simply have to many fighters to keep them all active. Re: Matchroom boxing stable size
Hearns shows are my favourite to watch by far actually, just saying that he needs to cut down on fighters, let them fight elsewhere, or put more shows on
Re: Matchroom boxing stable size
I find it hard to believe that Smith vs N'Dam, Algeri vs Coyle and Kelly vs Robinson couldn't have been held in the UK.3132DW wrote: ↑09 Aug 2019, 07:32It does to a certain degree - a lot of UK fighters have been taking the money in the US.

With the size of his stable and the available dates with Sky you have to admit that no Saturday fight nights in the UK from mid April to September is piss poor.
Re: Matchroom boxing stable size
I'm not anti Hearn, I think he is an excellent promoter, I am just pissed off with the lack of Saturday fight nights this year.
The few we have had have been good, but more often than not we have have had either PPVs or been fobbed off with a Nxt Gen card.

Purses. He can’t use DAZN money in the UK. Just Sky.. they not splashing cash on boxers.keirw wrote: ↑09 Aug 2019, 10:12I find it hard to believe that Smith vs N'Dam, Algeri vs Coyle and Kelly vs Robinson couldn't have been held in the UK.3132DW wrote: ↑09 Aug 2019, 07:32

We are talking about fighters like N'Dam, Algeri and Robinson. Very much doubt their purse demands are overblown.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑09 Aug 2019, 10:33Purses. He can’t use DAZN money in the UK. Just Sky.. they not splashing cash on boxers.keirw wrote: ↑09 Aug 2019, 10:12

Even in an inflated market Hearn and Sky should be doing more. Potential main event are going to America or PPV undercards and potential undercard fights are main eventing Nxt Gen shows.
US shows are funded by DAZN, Nxt Gen shows are funded by JD sports and PPV shows fund themselves. Not to mention the WBSS shows which also seem to fund themselves (no idea how).
Sky have invested very little this year, they need to pull their finger out.

So true. Maybe it was Cal Smith’s purse demands?keirw wrote: ↑09 Aug 2019, 10:44We are talking about fighters like N'Dam, Algeri and Robinson. Very much doubt their purse demands are overblown.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑09 Aug 2019, 10:33
