ADVICE FOR JON SHEP
ADVICE FOR JON SHEP
Jon I am amazed that u have given Frank his own little Forum.Where posts which have the potential to cause embarassment to Mr Warren and Co can be posted and viewed by certain trusted members because you are afraid of the legal ramifications.
A piece of advice firstly FW and SN cant afford costly legal battles secondly either register the BOARD and board ownership in someone elses name who is unemployed and qualifies for legal aid,then the next time Mr Heath sends u a threat tell him to shove it and if they dont like it tell them to sue it wont go very far.
FREE SPEECH my friend.

I appreciate where you're coming from, guru, but a couple of counterpoints:
1) JohnShep can probably afford a legal battle much less than FW can, and surely has much better things to do with his time than fight off lawsuits, even if they are nuisance lawsuits;
2) Free speech does not include slander, and British libel laws are very generous toward the victim of the alleged slander (they put the burden of proof on the accused libeler, i.e. if you accuse me of libel I have to prove that I didn't);
3) Opinions and clearly facetious comments (e.g. humor and parody) are protected speech, so if you want to rag on a British promoter, just make sure you don't confuse personal opinions with matters of record. E.g. unless you have actual proof to back up your claim, instead of saying "Promoter Frick Wanker lied about Brazilian prospect Nelson Pintor's having signed a contract to face his WTF titlist Rocky Shatton - he intended Rocky to face danish pastry Holdback Pitterpat all along," state it as your opinion: "It wouldn't surprise me if Frick Wanker never had a signed contract with Pintor, and had Holdback Pitterpat lined up as a backup all along. But that's just my opinion, and if Wanker shows us a signed contract, I'll freely admit that I was wrong."
Just by way of (facetious) example, of course. ;)

BUT WHAT HAPPENS IF-
you say stuff that is blatantly slanderous, but talk about Frick Wanker and Rocky Shatton, as eric has done above? Would you have grounds to say 'I never mentioned their names, so I wasn't talking about them/being slanderous' ?

As they say in the "fictional" TV specials, "Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental." ;)Riddick Blowe wrote:BUT WHAT HAPPENS IF-

Or as they say about (fictional) Rocky Shatton's (fictional) opponents:
"Any resemblance to actual world-class opposition, living or dead, is entirely unintentional."
