Andy Ruiz Jnr
Has anyone else noticed his pet punch: a right hook to the soft bit behind the ear? He has super quick hands, so it's hard for refs to spot at first, but it's deliberate and changes fights in his favour. Its also incredibly dangerous.
Re: Andy Ruiz Jnr
How do you know that it is deliberate?

Re: Andy Ruiz Jnr
It's happened in too many fights for it to be accidental, I would argue. Have a look at his fight with Elijah McCall, as a good example, and in his fight against Parker.
Re: Andy Ruiz Jnr
Ruslan Chagaev and Tony Thompson both throw that same punch Ruiz throws behind the ear.
Re: Andy Ruiz Jnr
Fighters turn their heads to avoid punches. It happens. I don't see Ruiz as being dirty.

Re: Andy Ruiz Jnr
It's thrown too often for it to be accidental, or for it to be just bad luck that a fighter has turned his head.
Re: Andy Ruiz Jnr
I did notice him doing that Vs Parker, and yes it was more often than can be called an accidental thing. Mind you, I have watched Ruiz Vs Parker 3 times studying it carefully
Re: Andy Ruiz Jnr
I guess my biggest question is this. Is punching behind the ear an illegal blow? Um...no it isn't.
Re: Andy Ruiz Jnr
Its boxing , just like following threw with the elbow some do stuff better than others ,
Re: Andy Ruiz Jnr
It’s not intentional imo.
How many boxers have you seen over the years accused of rabbit punching when their opponent bends way down. Benn was accused of it a lot but again if a fighter moved his head so low it’s almost always going to look that way.

I thought that behind the ear constitutes the back of the head and is, therefore, an illegal shot? If it isn't and it is legal, then Ruiz is going to be very hard to beat as that shot takes a heck of a lot out of an opponent and sets up heavier shots.

I cannot see it being called effectively. Temple shots have never been penalized that I know of. Kidney shots are allegedly illegal. How many times have you seen anyone penalized for it?big lennox wrote: ↑12 Aug 2019, 08:48I thought that behind the ear constitutes the back of the head and is, therefore, an illegal shot? It's not like opponents can't block or slip his punches is it?big lennox wrote: ↑12 Aug 2019, 08:48I thought that behind the ear constitutes the back of the head and is, therefore, an illegal shot? That's hilarious. What a devastatingly clever and witty response.Bravo. That's me told. For shame. Silly me for making casual observations with such staggering intellects floating about on the forum ready to pop any balloon.
Now, put a pair of gloves on, climb in the ring and box someone half decent with fast hands, who is allowed to hit you behind the ear, and see how you get on slipping the punches. Those type of shots are outside your peripheral vision. Enjoy the experience and best of luck. You will be absolutely fine and no harm will come from it. Right.

If you insist on getting all pissy about it, TFKoB’s most impactful blows were NOT behind the ear.big lennox wrote: ↑12 Aug 2019, 18:15 That's hilarious. Coming up with this line of utter trash to rationalize the thorough ass beating that TFKoB administered to AJ is literally laughable. The only shots he landed towards the back of AJ’s head were the result of the Brit staggering around like a drunk at 3am.
There is absolutely NO evidence that TFKoB targets his opponents with illegal punches. Zero. It is pathetic that you are resorting to such a pitiful argument.

I am not limiting it to the Anthony Joshua fight; if you watch a lot of Ruiz fights, he goes to the back of the head. He also hits Joshua in the back of the head in the combo before he caught him on the temple. That said, it's fake news I was watching and he never ever throws them. Watch his first round knockout of Elijah McCall. It looks like a neck/back of the head shot that knocks his opponent down and out. That's obviously trash and my eyes deceived me and the shots landed square on the chin. My bad.

I get what you're saying but I don't think it's intentional, it's just something that happens when a guy constantly throws looping punches like Ruiz does. Most of the time when it lands it's in that boarderline spot around the ear that is pretty much always treated as a scoring legit shot.
The guys worst for shots to the back of the head are usually the rabbit punchers, Huck did it constantly and Haye did it too.

At that level there’s is nothing that they do consistently that isn’t intentional - you know, like AJ consistently punching after the bell

Re: Andy Ruiz Jnr
You do realise how big a boxing glove is right?
It's not like you can target an area that small specifically.
I've heard some bullshit in my time on here, but the idea that Ruiz Jr has some sort of video game special move which makes him unbeatable is definitely up there with the biggest loads of old shite I've read on here.
Fighters get hit in and around the temple area a lot, some fighters are more susceptible to shots there than others, that's boxing.
Ruiz is not fighting dirty, simple as. He whupped Joshuas behind last time, and maybe will do the same all over again, but it won't be because of some special move bullshit.

lol yep this. The Tony Thompson comparison was funny, because he managed to land that punch on Price oncejamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑13 Aug 2019, 05:25 You do realise how big a boxing glove is right?
