Whats my name?

Post by TheGman »

Iv had this two part series recorded for a few months now off sky atlantic, its a fight by fight documentary on Ali's career. I didnt get into boxing till I was 8 or 9,I loved the rocky films before that which got me into the sport, im 41 now so I havent really seen all Ali's fights just the 2 Liston,2 of the Norton,3 Frazier,Forman, being from Britain obviously the 2 cooper fights and the Holmes fight, the rest of them have only been highlight reels. This documentary was brilliant and it upset me abit to see his deterioration over the time of his career. He had a chin of steel and really was the greatest. Give it a watch if you can get it.

Yes it was a great watch, haven’t always been Ali’s greatest fan but it’s hard not to be impressed by his body of work🙏

Im the same as you, didnt really appreciate Ali as a fighter till a few years ago and after watching this i put him up there as the greatest fighter, the way he had to change his style from the foreman fight onwards and made it work for him,he took way too much punishment off frazier 3,spinks 1 and holmes. We will never see another athlete like him ever i dont think,so inspirational.

Like I said I've never really watched ali, thought he was over hyped because I'd never really watched him but this programme changed my thoughts on him as a fighter. It was so upsetting watching him in the holmes fight and after that from when he was in the liston fights, the frazier fights and the terrell fight.

I would say the most over done thing in boxing is the rise and fall of Mike Tyson, when i was a teenager it felt like every other month a new VHS tape was released lol

Probably one of the better Ali documentaries. Up there with facing Ali.

Yeah his boxing skills, toughness, heart, recuperative powers, longevity and level of opponents puts him at no1 at heavyweight for sure.

And looking at that list of opponents thats streets ahead of anything floyd mayweather fought,Ali fought the vast majority of these in their prime no hand picking opponents just fight who is next so for boxrec to put floyd as the GOAT is an insult tbh.

I agree. FMJ does not come close. And Ali fought all over the world, not down the street from his house.

Exactly he has the people who run vegas in his pocket. You look at Ali Robinson Chavez pep monzon etc and to have floyd above these is a crime, floyd who pick pocketed vegas for nearly every fight of the last 20+ years. Yes Floyd fought the best of his generation but did he fight pacman at the right time? Mosley? De La Hoya? Did he fight Margarito? Did he fight hatton at the right weight? Corrales? The answer is no,but ali didnt have a weight class to jump and avoid certain fighters, there was a top 10 list and ali had to either climb the list if he was challenging or fight the next in line if he was champion.

A bad documentary. Like a brief Ali's career review despite being so long. Nothing interedsting and stand out in it. "Facing Ali" was miles better.

Same, especially the former.

There's really nothing interesting left to say about Ali,
