I saw that fight a few times and there is no doubt that Martinez lost it against Murray. Also Murray should've won the WBA super title against Sturm but he was badly screwed.

It was very close fight that could go either way IMO.

Murray's loss against Martinez wasn't a robbery. In my mind, the Brit deserved to win it, but it was a close fight.

Shouldn't this thread be moved to the historical board rather than residing in the current scene, since you're talking about a fight that took place more than six years ago?

Here are examples of four facts:
• Unlike the amateurs, bouts in the pro ranks aren’t scored according to the punch count landed.
• CompuBox stats aren’t flawlessly accurate.
• The barometer used to determine whether the outcome of a fight should be deemed as being a “robbery” or not is subjective in nature.
• Opinions and feelings aren’t facts and nor should they be considered as being "evidence" or "proof"

These are two of your opinions:
• CompuBox punch stats are effective at undermining the judges’ scoring of fights
• The outcome of the Murray-Martinez fight was a “robbery”

I'm getting worried about you! Are you going out of your mind?

We both believe that Martin Murray should have beaten Sergio Martinez, but for some strange reason, your pretending as though we're having some sort of argument. :brick:

Murray was unlucky not to get the nod on the scorecards. But it was quite close and the home fighter often gets the benefit of the doubt in those situations.

If Murray had been lineal champ, then GGG would have picked it up when he beat him in Monaco a couple years later and Canelo would be lineal champ now as he beat GGG last year (also a close fight that people have argued over).

Since Martinez won, he lost to Cotto, who subsequently lost to Canelo (yet another close fight).

So ultimately, the lineal champ at MW is Canelo and would have been had Murray got the official win vs Martinez or not.

Whether he beat GGG or Cotto are other arguments altogether (that have done to death already).

Indeed, Murray was very unlucky as he was against Sturm. He should've been two times champion but it was what it was. Martinez, as it should be, he got the benefit of the doubt in his home country but if a non-puncher like Murray dropped him it tells us what we need to know how in a bad shape Martinez was. Cotto was very lucky to fight a 'crippled' version of Martinez and get that nice scalp. :TU:

Close fight, but Martinez won it.

I always thought Murray vs Sturm was a rightful draw.

Macklin vs Sturm was a much worse decision.

Close fight that could've gone either way, personally had Martinez just winning

I had Murray losing to Sturm by a point

Macklin got legit robbed vs Sturm though

GGG would've probably beat Martinez I think, too bad that never happened for him though, wouldve made his resume look a lot better

Yeah, just imagine if it was GGG that was in the stadium that night instead of Murray, the judges could have took the night off.

Yeah I think so, I had him winning even without scoring the 2nd knockdown the ref should've given, I thought he deserved the win more against Martinez than the draw he got against Sturm

G'd have stopped Martinez. But at that time G was just a very high risk and low reward type of fighter. So Martinez had to fight JCCJr and Cotto to get some good paydays,

No doubt. Martinez was in a poor shape. I think that was Murray's best performance.
