Ryan Rhodes
Ryan Rhodes
Lockett is going to stretch him out no doubt, his chin is still out to dry with no defence. Lockett inside 3 rounds.

Re: Ryan Rhodes
Right. Ryan is fast but has a seriously dodgy chin. But Lockett is an erratic performer. I take Locket under 5.nickd wrote:Lockett is going to stretch him out no doubt, his chin is still out to dry with no defence. Lockett inside 3 rounds.

Rhodes has been gunshy since the Matthews fight. There's a reason he hasn't been in any high profile fights in the last 4 years since being knocked out by Blundell! If he does go through with the Lockett fight I think he'll get KO'd badly.topper123 wrote:Rhodes still has fast hands, but his head is static and in the air when he throws his shots, i thought last night he looked a bit gunshy as well, Lockett has a good chin and a great punch, you'd have to make him a heavy favourite after watching Rhodes last night.
Lockett TKO4.
He hits too hard for Ryan in my opinion.
Another thing that I has allways quizzed me about Rhodes is why did he stay at Middleweight ofter the Otis Grant fight in 1997? Was he struggling at the weight? He just looked more effective at Light-Middleweight I thought anyway. He even boxed around the Super-Middleweight limit at times which didn't suit him at all.

He's a shadow of the fighter that beat Silky Jones
He won on points over 8 rounds.

The result is not on yet but you can look at the guy he fought.

He's still quick, maybe he was taking his time last night to get some rounds in, but even his corner were telling him to try and get the other guy out of there in the last couple of rounds.Jacko11 wrote:Did he look chinny then? I have to admit when i fought him in Barnsley he was so much better than when i fought at York Hall..... his shots are so quick and accurate, though there is no way he will beat Lockett

I don't think the power has gone so much as that , like you say, he is unwilling to commit. When you hit with the power that Rhodes used to frequently show its not something that can be unlearned. Its natural.nickd wrote:Rhodes' power is all but gone. He's too gunshy to fully commit himself to punches these days. Bad knockouts can do that to a guy I guess.
Rhodes showed that he has basically lost the killer instinct the other night. The first 3/4 rounds were perfect as a warn up as he was winning with ease and shedding some rust. But after that it become boring plain and simple and simply served to remind us of how far back Rhodes has fallen.
Maybe being in the firing line against a puncher like Locket will bring the best out of him. And there is always the chance that in a hectic exchange , Rhodes lands a reflex shot from the old days. But I wouldn't hold my breath. I see Rhodes trying to outbox Locket and showing plenty of movement before getting caught by a counter bomb by about the 4 or 5th round. Its still a very interesting fight though.
Well lets not forget Lockett has a rock solid chin. I doubt very much Rhodes could beat him with one punch especially now he is so tentative. Only 1 winner for me.WayoftheCass wrote:I don't think the power has gone so much as that , like you say, he is unwilling to commit. I'll argue the case for a Rhodes win over Lockett here, although I admit that Lockett has to be the favourite.
I think Ryan was happy to get eight rounds in the bag last night, and I thought he was on auto-pilot the whole time. I'd expect him to be a lot sharper next time out, it's make or break for him and he's not exactly too old. Lockett has the power to flatten him, no doubt about it, and if Ryan's chin is hanging out it will be goodnight Vienna.
However, lets not forget that Lockett marks up very badly indeed and Rhodes has the style to cause facial damage - lots of punches making contact in every round even if they're not bombs. Plus, his style is going to frustrate Lockett and as the fight goes on Ryan might well win more rounds than he loses - he is rarely outboxed.
Its an intriguing match up between two nice guys and I hope we get a clear and conclusive ending - no injuries or cuts or controversies with the scoring. I'll risk a few quid on a Rhodes win if the odds are tempting
