By Barry Holbrook:" Sergiy Derevyanchenko and former IBF/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin have agreed to financial terms for a fight on October 5th for the vacant IBF title on DAZN. There’s still some smaller details that need to be ironed out. The bout will be taking place at Madison Square Garden in New York.
DAZN chief John Skipper played a big part in the negotiations.
The winner of the GGG-Derevyanchenko fight will be the new International Boxing Federation middleweight champion. Golovkin and Derevyanchenko need the IBF title to help increase their chances of getting a unification match against WBA/WBC champion Saul Canelo Alvarez, who wants to unify the division.
Derevyanchenko is in the position of crushing Golovkin’s chances of getting a third fight with Canelo. It’s still possible that DAZN will want Canelo and Golovkin to face each other even if GGG loses on October 5, but it’ll be under less than desirable conditions." from BN24

Very rugged engagement for both fighters. No one should doubt the class of this contest. It will take GGG everything he has to win this.

Not only a good opponent but a good style match up.
True. This fight would be action packed.....BUT
..... beside the G's age another thing that I'm concerned is if G will try to box more looking uncomfortable and get hit or he will get back to his own ol' style? In the Steve Rolls fight G got hit when he tried to fight differently and I guess against a fighter like Derevyanchenko would be very dangerous to do mistakes by fighting in a style that you don't master it well.
Maybe Abel Sanchez was G's best trainer b/c he tried to improve/sharpen his natural style of fighting and not change it.

I sort of agree. GGG needs to be himself in the ring. Sanchez wasn't the best trainer for him but neither is Banks.

The thing is if G will get hit more than usually, instinctively he'll came back to his natural style of fighting. I guess.
As for G's new trainer Banks, I think he's the type of guy that doesn't put that musch pressure on G and he also he's not ripping off G of his hard earned money.
In fact I think G did well by making some changes in his team and splited from the greedy-shady people who were trying to leech him form his hard earned money. I'm glad that a foreign fighter like G has became his own boss like FMJ. Haters gonna hate.

I'm not sure. Abel strikes me as a trainer that makes you work harder and fight harder rather than smarter which I don't believe would be in the interest of an aging fighter. I think though, he's proven himself to be better than Banks at this stage.

Yes, Abel is a good strength and conditioning coach, but again, at this age Golovkin shouldn't be training that hard. I don't think he is a better boxing trainer than Banks.

I only know of Banks as a boxer and him taking over for Klit once Steward had passed. This is where we saw the decline of Klit which may just be a coincidence regarding K's age. Also though, many people have said K's performance against AJ was the best they had seen him in years so......
Until he proves himself further I'd rate Abel over him. Abel is good at churning out pressure fighters. But that is a young mans style in my opinion.

I think Abel was exploiting G's abilities&style of fighting as much as he could to get the best results. You can't ask or teach a fighter like G to fight like FMJ or Loma. They don't share the same boxing abilities and ring IQ's.

The only way we will see if there is an improvement in G's game is in his next fight. But then with his age I doubt G will be that sharp to box, move and get less hit. At some point of the fight G would have to get back to his old style.

Yup. But also let's not forget that G boxed pretty well against Lemieux, Jacobs and Canelo I.
