He should have knocked Joshua out if it was so easy rather getting stoppedmickey1975 wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 05:11He was going to get robbed anyway!margaret thatcher wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 01:38 That's not exactly what happened, Wlad was loading up left hooks after dropping him and trying to take him out that round, and also had been going after him in the 5th. Re: AJ on Lennox Lewis?
Wlad as usual wasn't throwing many punches and the ones he did were unimaginative and predictable. With what we know now, it seems obvious that if WK opened up and piled the pressure on AJ, he would have folded.

That is possible, but would Wlad have taken the punches Ruiz took?thechump wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 08:14Like a deck chairoverhand_right wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 07:46 Wlad as usual wasn't throwing many punches and the ones he did were unimaginative and predictable. Ruiz had to walk through fire to get his shots off, Wlad wasn't known for having that kind of durability.
He also wouldn't have been dipping low and throwing short hooks up at Joshua either.
The comparison is pointless given the huge differences in styles between Wlad and Ruiz.
Re: AJ on Lennox Lewis?
Why didn't he then? It being so obvious and easy a solution to the problem in front of him?thechump wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 08:14Like a deck chairoverhand_right wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 07:46 Wlad as usual wasn't throwing many punches and the ones he did were unimaginative and predictable. I had Wlad up on the cards heading into that round he got stopped - but thats HW boxing for yousharpei_louis wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 04:35 To be fair at times through the rounds after the Wlad KD I was going 'ref should stop this', AJ was in cloud cuckoo for ages...
Think the 'punch from the gods' comment was just silly though. The two that did for Lewis (McCall and Rahman) were both absolute howitzers - this was a short choppy hook. OK it landed to the top of his head - he is 6'6" so not sure why he was down there... Basically never saw any top guys troubled with punches like that in Lewis' day.
For AJ to say it was a single lucky punch either came from a place that he is in denial about how he lost, or that he had Lewis' two losses in mind and his ego wouldn't let him be below that. Went down big time in my estimation with that interview.
I have never believed this AJ media persona, especially given his dalliances with the Police in his late teens, but there's a difference between being an angry and nasty guy, and talking crap.
Re: AJ on Lennox Lewis?
Because wlad has always been gun shy,we are saying hypothetically if wlad would of known back then that Josh would crumble under pressure he would of put it on him. The punch from gods came in that fight and it was the uppercut AJ hit wlad with at the start of the end, thats a punch from the gods

Early in his career Wlad was susceptible to fast fighters, Corrie sanders did much the same thing to him as Ruiz did to Joshua.keirw wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 08:58That is possible, but would Wlad have taken the punches Ruiz took?

Maybe it was the other lad still being there and punching him hard in the head and body that deterred him?thechump wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 09:17Because wlad has always been gun shy,we are saying hypothetically if wlad would of known back then that Josh would crumble under pressure he would of put it on him. It's pretty much projection based on his last fight and people being narked that he had the temerity to become world champ in the first place.

Re: AJ on Lennox Lewis?
You're too passionately devout to discuss Joshua honestly. Wlad was throwing the same punches over and over to try finish it. Mostly the big lobbing left hook that flattened Pulev, that AJ and everyone in the top row could see coming. Your man was gassed and hurt for several rounds and on his bike but Wlad just trailed him around in a predictable manner, a single telegraphed left hook here, another there, forever hesitating, the story of his second career. That's the point we're making. If he had stepped up the pressure he could have perhaps stopped Joshua there and then, but he let him off the hook. Ruiz didn't.samwbr wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 10:03Maybe it was the other lad still being there and punching him hard in the head and body that deterred him?thechump wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 09:17

Fair enough you like Joshua. But if you think the Ruiz fight was a blip you might want to start thinking up some excuses for the impending second blip -- unless someone's discovered a PED that can spawn natural talent in the body.

Joshua did more or less nothing for 2 rounds, the only thing that deterred Wlad, was his own extreme caution, which was self ingrained after two devastating stoppage losses early in his career.samwbr wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 10:03Maybe it was the other lad still being there and punching him hard in the head and body that deterred him?thechump wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 09:17

Where did I say it was a blip? I Can easily see him losing to Ruiz again.

Perhaps the knock down took something away from him? He was 40 and it was a decent shot.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 12:28Joshua did more or less nothing for 2 rounds, the only thing that deterred Wlad, was his own extreme caution, which was self ingrained after two devastating stoppage losses early in his career.

Re: AJ on Lennox Lewis?
The devotion as far as I see it is from those willing him to fail on the grounds that he is manufactured or fake in some way. Its professional boxing, they all get taught how to to box how to fight how to handle situations.

Yes and we all go to school but some kids are clever and some kids are thick, even in the same class room getting the same education. Do you not see that some fighters have a natural advantage in that they can do something instinctually in the ring that doesn't come naturally to other fighters?

Re: AJ on Lennox Lewis?
It’s weird because the most manufactured personality I’ve seen lately is Tyson Fury.
Attend an evening with him...he’s full of nonsense. Genuinely had me questioning if the mental issues were real or not. Didn’t come across as genuine at all which I found quite surprising. I think he’s a really good actor on the blag.

Re: AJ on Lennox Lewis?
Obviously there is but Joshua was world heavyweight champ after less than 20 pro fights and not that many amateur either. He knows a few things clearly and is also well coached. All the talk about Ruiz was how well schooled he is after extensive amateur experience.overhand_right wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 14:55Yes and we all go to school but some kids are clever and some kids are thick, even in the same class room getting the same education. Re: AJ on Lennox Lewis?
As well as 10 more pro fights. Ruiz has way better instincts than AJ. In fact, AJ's instincts were really tested for the first time vs Ruiz. He failed miserably. Couldn't even follow his corner's direction. Did you hear the questions AJ was asking in the corner?samwbr wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 15:03Obviously there is but Joshua was world heavyweight champ after less than 20 pro fights and not that many amateur either. We'll see what if anything AJ learned from the loss. That will tell us how good he is, or not.

A KO result either way wouldnt surprise. Can't see it going 12 rounds.oogiebe wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 15:06As well as 10 more pro fights. Ruiz has way better instincts than AJ. Re: AJ on Lennox Lewis?
You might be right, but something inside my feeble mind thinks a overly cautious 12 round decision for AJ is a possibility. I have some doubts that AJ can stop Ruiz, unless Andy isn't able to maintain his dedication and determination. Remember Buster Douglas lost his edge and gained a ton of fat after beating Tyson. I know you know that. My leaning is a repeat of the first fight.samwbr wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 15:14A KO result either way wouldnt surprise. Re: AJ on Lennox Lewis?
AJ can beat Ruiz but its how he fights,if he is cautious he will get knocked out but if he fights to his own strengths, keeping it tall and taking his timr he can beat Ruiz he could even k.o him but im leaning towards a Ruiz k.o middle to late rounds. Tbh iv lost all respect fo AJ after his pulling down of LL,Lewis gets asked questions about the heavyweight landscape all the time,no need to get butt hurt.oogiebe wrote: ↑21 Aug 2019, 15:18You might be right, but something inside my feeble mind thinks a overly cautious 12 round decision for AJ is a possibility.
