Kubrat Pulev on Tyson Fury

Post by Ilya Muromets »

IBF #1-rated heavyweight contender Kubrat “The Cobra” Pulev has responded to former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s public claims that he turned down a fight with “The Gypsy King.” Pulev asserts it is the exact opposite situation, in fact.

“Fury is using me and some other boxers that he knows are currently unavailable for different reasons, just so he can get some PR,” said Pulev. “A few years ago, Fury refused a fight with me and not because he wasn’t available like I am right now. He was available. He was just scared!”

By winning a unanimous decision over Fury’s cousin Hughie last October, Pulev became the mandatory next fight for the winner of the upcoming Ruiz vs. Joshua rematch.

Fury made the claim that Pulev is afraid to fight while justifying facing his next opponent, lesser-known Swedish heavyweight Otto Wallin on September 14 in Las Vegas.

“My first goal is to become a world champion,” continued the Bulgarian slugger, “not to just fight random unknown opponents like he’s doing! Winning those belts are my main focus right now. Fury’s turn will come and, when it does, I will make him just as powerless as his cousin, who also used to talk a lot.”

He could cause Tyson problems, especially if he was a bit younger.

Dealt with Hughie and Del Boy easy enough and he’s also well schooled, if one paced.
He’s forgot more about boxing than Fury’s recent opponents will ever know ( Wilder included! )

All this time they were saying that it was Pulev who turned down a fight with Fury when the opposite was the case!

Man, this would be a dull fight.

Fury would win a UD and then he’d kiss Pulev!

Pulev jab dependant as he is would land nothing, absolutelely zero Except in air and on gloves.

Maybe a handful off punches grazing fury's gloves every round, getting bested in every exchange & beaten to a pulp in the process.

White towel comes flying round 10.

Pulev is a tough motherfucker, i give him that, just no chance vs. the agility & punch variety of a fit fury.

Can't argue with that. Fury will never fight Pulev anyway.

And then Pulev would kiss the female ringside doctor or something, and we'd have that mess all over again

Tyson Fury defies the betting odds and defeats Wladimir Klitschko on his home turf to become the WBA, IBF, WBO & IBO world heavyweight champion.

The ‘Gypsy King’ then suffers from depression, ballooned to around 400lbs, remained inactive for 2½ years, managed to shed 142lbs, prior to facing two journeymen, and then is deprived of a well-deserved victory over Deontay Wilder on the American's back yard…

And for some strange reason, Kubrat Pulev feels that Tyson Fury is “scared” of facing him?

If the Fury family was so fearful of the challenge posed by the Bulgarian, Hughie Fury would never have faced the IBF mandatory challenger.

FFS! I’ve read a lot of stupid shḯt in my time, but this clearly defies the norm!

I doubt any fighter has ever been "scared" of a KO victim to a guy he's previously beaten.

I'm scared of turning on my TV and finding pulev boxing on every channel. That's a nightmare. Not particular skilled, not remotely entertaining. Look forward to his retirement.

Very few boxers don't talk s__t. However. I think that Pulev, for all his inactivity, has gotten better and is capable of pulling an upset.

Yepp, top level boxing has long been a highly professional risk analysis business. It's all about the Benjamins. And while there might be cases of fighters deliberately avoiding challengers (the classic case being Bowe and Lewis) 90% of these "ducking" and "afraid of" claims is just pure hype by the person in the weaker negotiating position.

And for the record, Fury schools Pulev. Pulev stands tall, has a decent chin and a big heart, but a fit Fury is just so mobile and has an even greater reach and will frustrated Pulev no end, whilst merrily clowning around and jabbing him to death.

Way too harsh. Pulev is a good fighter, not elite, but has really solid technicals and a good amateur pedigree. I'm much rather have a fit, determined Pulev turning up to the ring that 280lbs of fat in the form of Ruiz Jr.

Too each their own. I don't care for Ruiz either. Heavyweights past Josh, wilder and the young guns don't much interest me.
