Unified heavyweight world titleholder Andy Ruiz Jr. has agreed to go to Saudi Arabia to face Anthony Joshua in their much-anticipated rematch, a source with direct knowledge of the discussions confirmed to ESPN on Thursday.

Ruiz and his team on Wednesday night agreed to terms that will have him face Joshua again on Dec. 7 at a soon-to-be-constructed outdoor stadium in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, where the government is backing a site fee worth tens of millions of dollars.

Ruiz's team sought not only a better financial deal than what was spelled out in the contract for the first fight -- about $9 million for the rematch, sources have told ESPN -- but also guarantees for other aspects of the fight that were not part of that original contract.
According the source, Hearn has made Ruiz "happier" in terms of the money, including giving him the Mexican television rights for the bout.

VADA testing is now also included in the renegotiated terms.

According to Mike Coppinger, which was eventually confirmed by Eddie Hearn, Ruiz Jr’s $9m purse for the immediate rematch was already agreed in the contract for the first fight.

And I previously stated the following:

I feel that Ruiz Jr. knows he has a very strong legal argument to scupper Eddie Hearn's plans to engage in the AJ rematch if it was staged in Saudi Arabia and is possibly using this to compel Matchroom US to provide him with a bigger purse.

The move of venue from the US or UK to Saudi Arabia has provided AJ with a vastly improved payday, but Ruiz Jr's remains the same, regardless the location of the bout.

I also said the following:

Andy Ruiz Jr’s trainer, Manny Robles, is claiming that there are questions that need answering by Eddie Hearn prior to his fighter agreeing to compete in Saudi Arabia, since there’s no boxing commission and no VADA testing in that country.

Therefore, Andy Ruiz Jr. must have had a strong legal argument, because otherwise Eddie Hearn wouldn’t have agreed to ignore the contract and concede to the Mexican-American’s demands!
