Hidden gem tonight?

Post by jameswilson »

On the undercard of Kovalev v Yarde we have Illunga Makabu v Aleksei Papin.

Makabu doesn't seem to do bother with boring fights.

Discuss.

An intriguing bout, as Papin looks like a good prospect and finally steps up. Makabu is proven to be tough and dangerous.

Good fight & confident matchmaking by the Russians, putting their undefeated boy in with the hard hitting Makabu, who is going to be dangerous after his last big win in Russia.
But the Russian looks a hard hitter too, should be a good one. Presume it’s on around 630 ish

iam glad they gave makabu the decision. as i thought close fight till 10th, i had draw or papin, but a knock down could win it,and makabu got it,thought he would be cheated on cards , warrior that man, papin looked good for his 12th fight ,great fight

Makabu won clearly. The draw score sucked. Papin had a good start, but Makabu calculated and outlasted Papin pretty quickly and took over. Papin looked like he was surviving and hoping to land a big punch for the big part of the fight. Closer to the final rounds it could seem, that Papin was bouncing back, probably Makabu took a break, yet eventually Makabu finished the fight decisively, as Papin was badly hurt in the 11th, when he held the ropes to save himself from falling down, and eventually Papin was dropped in the 12th. Papin showed some heart and a quality of being always dangerous, but he didn't win that fight. Maybe it was an excessive stepping up.

Watched the second half of it.

Belting fight, cruisers are consistently in good fights. I'm sure Makabu can get another world title fight soon.

If I was a promoter I'd be snapping Makabu up. The guy gives great value and is one tough mother f ucker.

Good fight that was, also good to see fair scoring.

Let's face it, if it was in the UK the home fighter would get that 90% of the time.

2 good wins in just over 2 months, they should get him out again before Christmas and then target one of the champions in the new year. Makabu is in good form and I like his style and toughness.

i'd like to see him vs Głowacki on the undercard of Briedis vs Dorticos and then the winners fight each other.

He's a mandatory now but it would be after glowacki. Don't know what to tell him, could be 2021!
