Not after tonight he isn't. The LH champs are all killers and with Yarde's strength and cojones he would take another sustained shelling from any of them. Too brave for his own good

I think his previous opponent selection by Warren/his management is a big issue.KiwiRider wrote: ↑24 Aug 2019, 16:50He would learn a lot from watching this fight back. Work on a few things and come back better. Given his poor preparation and opponent selection, he did very well.Nondescript wrote: ↑24 Aug 2019, 16:46
I think Yarde can hang at world level, but I agree in that I'm not sure I'd fancy him to beat any of the current belt holders,
Beterbiev would probably be his best chance, but even though hes crude, hes still physically very strong and hits very hard.
I agree the other belt holders would be tougher than Kov, but he could work his way up to them.
Jumping up from the kind of opponents he built a padded record up on to being put in with Kovalev, is pretty ridiculous when you think about it.
Re: Round-by-Round: Sergey Kovalev vs. Anthony Yarde - 24 August 2019
My take on it :
I thought Tunde should have stopped it at the end of the previous rounds
I am hoping that it didn’t cause Yarde too much damage physically . I think he was just knackered and getting clipped occasionally post Rnd 8 , so hopefully no adverse physical effects
It’s a shit hot division so hard to win a world title !
Yarde showed balls and chin and world class power . Lacked in experience & gas .
The finishing shot had nothing on it , he could barely stand up for the previous 6 mins
Hayes beating by Thompson was similar

Fair cards. Some rounds could have gone either way.
Re: Round-by-Round: Sergey Kovalev vs. Anthony Yarde - 24 August 2019
Did Tunde keep it going because he was blinded by his own ego ?
Re: Round-by-Round: Sergey Kovalev vs. Anthony Yarde - 24 August 2019
I'm guessing FW was cashing out a bit, esp with the big money on offer.Nondescript wrote: ↑24 Aug 2019, 17:04I think his previous opponent selection by Warren/his management is a big issue.

In contrast look at the job he did with Hatton. By the time he faced Tzyu he was a seasoned 12 round fighter, used to the big occasion, and had experienced all types of styles.
Many of the early rounds were close, but Kov was in control, he knew what he had to do to win the rounds and to leave himself with gas in the tank for the championship rounds.
In fairness to Yarde he proved his chin and heart but was sadly lacking in experience, a huge ask going into the lions den, must have burnt up a hell of a lot of nervous energy too.
Nevertheless he was hugely rewarded financially.

12 Am fights and 18 journeymen- I wouldn't be surprised if he was still under warrantydr_devious wrote: ↑24 Aug 2019, 17:01Not after tonight he isn't. TBH, I don't see how Yarde won any rounds other than the 7th and 8th. All the other rounds Kov was outboxing him with a sharp jab and of course later on just downright beating him up.
Seemed an easy fight to score in rounds to me, 8-2 Kov. And then Yarde could've been given a 10-8 8th and Kov a 10-8 10th.

The guy trying to get Kovalev to show off the EBP belt was a bit frantic

Re: Round-by-Round: Sergey Kovalev vs. Anthony Yarde - 24 August 2019
Giving Yarde anything but 7 and 8 is generous. Round 1 he did nothing but walk forward and get outjabbed, yet the one judge gave it to him? Bizarre!Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑24 Aug 2019, 18:01margaret thatcher wrote: ↑24 Aug 2019, 17:40

Was always a big reach, no shame on losing. I didnt see it, so not sure how bad the beating was.
Re: Round-by-Round: Sergey Kovalev vs. Anthony Yarde - 24 August 2019
Doesn't seem awful to me to give him rd1. I gave it to Kov too but it was close. Surprised only one gave the 8th as a 10-8 to Yarde too. Pretty clear 10-8 to me. Seem refs step in for less.

Seen the highlights, cracking effort considering how inexperienced he was, fair play to him
Re: Round-by-Round: Sergey Kovalev vs. Anthony Yarde - 24 August 2019
i think yarde got his tatics spot on, i thought kk would win, but yarde had his chance to blow him out in the 7th i think and he didnt close. but kk is a warrior

Can see after Yarde’s huge round, he himself was finished. Hardly landed anything.

It’s ok YouTube already !
I don’t think it was a “beating”, Yarde exhausted rather than getting battered !

Sounds like yarde performed above his experience level, obviously tough to last 11 rounds, will stand him in good stead most likely.

Re: Round-by-Round: Sergey Kovalev vs. Anthony Yarde - 24 August 2019
I've only just had chance to watch this. Kovalev is badly depleted from the bloke who fought Ward, but Yarde is about 20% better a fighter than I thought he was
Re: Round-by-Round: Sergey Kovalev vs. Anthony Yarde - 24 August 2019
Yarde remained surprisingly calm especially given that he lost most of the first half of the fight. I thought he had him in the eighth. Kovalev's obviously well conditioned and recovered well, got a second wind, and got the better of the younger, less experienced guy.
I'd like to see Yarde fight a couple of fringe world level guys (Sullivan Barrera/Jean Pascal) before he steps up again.
The top boys at light heavy are all absolute beasts.

Re: Round-by-Round: Sergey Kovalev vs. Anthony Yarde - 24 August 2019
Yarde will take some recovering form this, such a confident fella is Yarde, but time and time again we have seen how much of a different story it is when these fighters suddenly have to deal with someone who fights back and with venom.
It's too much of a gap even for Yarde being at peak physical condition. Yes he's done a few quid out of it, but ultimately he wasn't ready. His ranking was always overly inflated and this is the result.
