You could look at Andre Ward too.
Won't make as much money but last time I checked Sergey Kovalev has come off back to back impressive wins and Andre Ward commentating on both of them.
Stirring the sh_t I know, but there are options.

I've read that Kov has already signed to fight Canelo, and that he just needed to get past Yarde first

I'm not denying that I don't know.
If it is signed sealed and delivered why are you so concerned ?

If it's Kovalev v Canelo style wise it makes for a very entertaining bout.

Talking about Kovalev's conditions and retiring, I guess, Kovalev is obviously still there, yet past prime, that'why he needs valuable options, not time-wasting ones. Those are the unifications or Canelo fight. He must do it, while he can do it. Unifications are probably harder to achieve options, while the Canelo bout has already been offered. So, it looks like Kovalev really should fight Canelo and retire. He'll achieve more money with that, than with the unifications, while it probably won't be an easy fight now, so retiring afterwards will be a truly rational option. If Kovalev was in prime, he would win any of his current potential opponents for sure. But now he should choose the most rational option, he has nothing left to prove.

Sorry about the language. I just don't see why Russians need an American trainer.
In Sergey's case, it seems to be that change might just keep him motivated. Can't really see any added skill to his game, he just seems looser, more prone to getting hit but maybe staying loose helps his stamina a shade. Can't see him beating any of the top LHWs that way though. But he's no doubt cashing out with Canelo, and crap like that just further puts me off the sport.

That is what is called over here as lighting a fire under someone's ass. It worked, didn't it?

Maybe it's a language barrier, but why are you calling the trainers a-holes?
Sorry about the language. I just don't see why Russians need an American trainer.
The Russians fighters who hire the American trainers obviously see them as superior.

Yep, that was the case. Kovalev did exactly what he needed to get Canelo: got an impressive win and looked vulnerable.

Should get rid of some of his bodybuilder muscle to improve stamina.

..in his case it's the experience that counts...emotions aside, I hope they'll get back to the drawing board, OBJECTIVELY analyse the fight and hopefully do a couple of readjustments...

Sure sounds like Yarde's head is on straight. No excuses and fully understands that he is far from finished and still has work to do. He mentions the experience gap.

Kovalev (2015 version) would KO Kovalev (2019 version) in six rounds, and KO Yarde in three rounds.
I had very strong feeling that Yarde cared much more about his hair-cut, tatooes and muscles than about his boxing skills.
Anyway, I think his (Yarde's) limit is the top ten LHW, if he is lucky - maybe the belt-holder (about 2022).

He started attaching Kov’s body too late. Had he started early.. however. Kovalev has a really strong jab throughout controlling the Bout.

Yep, Yarde couldn't get close to fresh Kovalev. Only when Kova got tired, Yarde was able to have short lasting success, but then he punched himself out.

He has a better chance against Canelo even though Canelo is also a body puncher. Ward would still stop him.
You gonna bump a zillion Kovalev threads again if Canelo beats him :yay:
Of course because you misread what I said. I never said Kovalev would beat Canelo, just that he has a better chance against him than Ward because of size.

A 30 year old Kovalev breaks a 30 year old Canelo down and out. I'll say this about Canelo: when his career is over he may not be that healthy to enjoy his life as he has taken a heap of shots to that cabeza of his.
