Examples of good and bad cornerwork when faced with the tough decision to pull a fighter out.
Some, including me, have pointed to poor cornerwork tonight not pulling Yarde out when he was clearly knackered and almost got out away 5 seconds before the bell.
Anyone got any examples of a corner extending a boxers career? And examples of corners costing fighters horrendous damage?

It boggles my mind they sent Michael Watson out for the 12th versus Eubank. What on earth must he have looked like up close between rounds?

Phil wosshisface in Kevin Kelley's corner, the dude with the 'tache. Pulled him out versus Cobrita Gonzalez & took a lot of shite for it, but I thought he always had the Flushing Flash's back, as ver kidz say. & Kelley went on to have a long & storied career afterwards, too.

Yarde should have been pulled out after the 10th. No doubt at all. He had nothing left. Bad cornerwork from Tunde

One of the gold standard examples is Brian Hughes pulling Reid against Lacy.

And Lacy's corner for not pulling him out against JC. Lacy was a shell of himself after thatGrilling Machine wrote: ↑24 Aug 2019, 16:59 One of the gold standard examples is Brian Hughes pulling Reid against Lacy.

True, and Lacy was a 21-0 young up and coming boxer at the timeNightmare Roy wrote: ↑24 Aug 2019, 17:42Yeah that was terrible, finished his career, he says so himself
It will be interesting to see how Yarde handles this defeat - mentally more than physically

I really dont get that Tunde guy. When they were walking to the ring, Tunde was just staring doe-eyed at Yarde like he was in love with him not like they were going to work.
Then he was silent in the corner the forst few rounds, didn't say a word in the break and he's getting a big cut of yarde's money. in one break BT kept the camera on him and i thought they had lost the sound becuase he just just stood looking at him then he went in close as if to say something and didn't say a word. totally bizarre.
yarde was finished in the 10th and tunde could have saved him. even frink wurren said as much in the interview afterwards before bunce glossed over it.
i'd love to hear what teddy atlas makes of tunde's corner work

Eddie Futch pulling Joe Frazier out of the Thriller In Manilla.

Davey Moore's corner sent their man out for the eighth round against a ferocious Roberto Duran in a world title encounter at Madison Square Garden in June 1983 - with Moore utterly and completely beaten. To compound the horrendous circumstances on the night, Mexican referee Ernest Magana then allowed Duran to pummel Moore for much of the eighth before the towel came in a hundred years too late. Moore, who was only 24, never really recovered and was dead at 28 after a sickening accident on his driveway in the snow.
Another sickener was Darkie Smith's decision to send out Jim McDonnell for the 12th and last round against Azumah Nelson at the Albert Hall in November 1989, a decision which ruined McDonnell, who was down twice before referee Joe Cortez called a halt. McDonnell's right eye had been pounded shut in the 11th and the man had given absolutely everything.

Adam booth pulling haye out of the Thompson fight was a good call. Think he basically said something about saving him for another day.

That was one I thought of myself. Haye went onto be our most successful Cruiser and a good heavyweight.
When I see how much someone like Ted Cheeseman and Sam Eggington have deteriorated through taking shots it does make me think. Especially given that quite often a fighter will sack the trainer for pulling them out.

Tibbs did ask him if he wanted out. Hindsight is a big equalizer in that case.jameswilson wrote: ↑24 Aug 2019, 15:55Jesus a chills gone through my spine there. Robert Wangila against Gonzalez apparently, although I never saw it.

O‘Sullivan vs Eubank was a good call. They knew their man and got him out when the fight was turning against him.
