Fights that happened that would of been great if both were in their prime.

Post by paddy chavez »

I thought of Terry Norris Vs Don Curry when it happened Curry was past it but a prime curry Vs Norris would of been a pick em and a great fight,
Tyson Vs Larry Holmes that would of been a great fight and a case could be made for both fighters.
I'd of liked to of seen the lightweight Mosley Vs lightweight Floyd Shane would of given Floyd trouble I think.

Camacho and Leonard were in 2 different weight classes in their prime. I personally feel Howard Davis jr. would have beaten Camacho if he fought Hector in his prime.

Can't imagine Holyfield having trouble in the two fights listed. Whitaker might have shutout Trinidad. No way Joe Smith would have given Hopkins a good fight. Leonard would have schooled Norris.

Some of the other ones listed would have been interesting though. Pac vs DLH may been have been the best.

One I always thought would have been good was Marciano vs Louis.

Maybe the action would have sucked but seeing Mayweather vs. Pacquaio fight in a fight that was only successful in preserving Floyd's "0" (wasn't that the goal all along?) and making both a lot of money but meant basically nothing to either legacy is a sad indictment on the era.

Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Hector Camacho - Probably Chavez brings out what we found out later in Camacho but sure would have been fun seeing it pre-Camacho/Rosario.

Sugar Ray Robinson- Henry Armstrong - two of the top five boxers ever, both with great styles. Why not?

Oscar De La Hoya vs. Julio Cesar Chavez - If a fossilized version of Chavez could make a spirited go in 1998, then surely a peak JCC brings the fight out of Oscar when he was an exciting fighter himself.

Marvin Hagler vs. Sugar Ray Leonard - Leonard wouldn't be prime weight but would have been nice to see him make the leap about 4-5 years earlier.

Floyd Mayweather vs. Shane Mosley - I think a Mosley who wasn't washed up, old and rusty could bring out a rare entertaining Mayweather fight.

Jimmy Wilde vs. Pancho Villa - Wilde in the middle of his run and not on the back of a 2 1/2 year layoff and brutal KO loss vs. Villa's aggressive, crowd pleasing style? Yes please!

Beau Jack vs. Henry Armstrong - Incredible clash of styles. Lots of skill, lots of fists thrown and few backwards steps.

There's so many. I'll probably be back with more.

I always hated it that Jhonny Gonzalez and Rafael Marquez didn't tangle at Bantamweight. Would've been fun, and all action while it lasted. I can easily see both men tasting the canvas too.

At Bantamweight I don't think Gonzalez would have had much chance and would get stopped quickly. Perhaps once Rafael starting losing after the Vazquez series took his prime away and Gonzalez was going through a revival, it would have been interesting then.

I think it would've always been interesting. I'll grant you that Rafael probably wins easier at Bantamweight, but I don't think it'd have been one sided or boring.

DAVEY DAY VS. ROBERTO DURAN AS LIGHTWEIGHTS / WELTERWEIGHTS. DAY WAS THE GUY THAT NO CHAMPIONS WANTED TO FIGHT, OUT OF FEAR THEY'D GET KO. OR CUT UP. 'DAVEY DAY VS. HENRY ARMSTRONG' AND LOU AMBER'S PICTURES ARE ON EBAY WITH GREAT STORY OF FIGHTS AND ALL THE CHAMPIONS IN THE GOLDEN AGE OF BOXING. WANT TO BE WISED UP GO TO EBAY AND PUT IN SEARCH --- DAVEY DAY AND HENRY ARMSTRONG --- TOGETHER. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BID ON ANYTHING, THE STORY IS QUITE EXTENSIVE IN THE DESCRIPTION PER LOT. PICTURE OF DAY ARRIVING IN NEW YORK WITH HIS MANAGER TO FIGHT PEDRO MONTANEZ. YOU CAN ALSO LOOK UP CHICAGO FOLKLORE'S OF NELSON ALGREN'S INTERVIEW WITH DAVEY AFTER HIS FIGHT WITH HENRY ARMSTRONG IN THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS SITE. PEACE.
