Canelo vs Kov

Post by margaret thatcher »

This will probably happen next

A lot of people thinking Canelo walks through him to the body, but on the other hand Canelo is basically moving up 2 divisions and guys a lot lesser than Kov have taken him rounds and taken his shots okay. Kov is a good boxer himself with a sharp jab and he has never been outclassed in any fight. We've also seen how Chavez walked through everything at MW, but then got dropped and stopped as soon as he fought a decent LHW.

That said, I'll still go Canelo

Thoughts?

I wonder how much they fancy their chances after seeing that.

Canelo's is going to be up against it big time, he won't be able to stand in front of Kovalev for a moment, if he tries to trade with him, he's going to get smashed to bits.

I think this is a bridge too far, Kovalev by wide decision, with Canelo taking a protracte kicking, I think his chin will keep him in the fight, and he may even start well, but as the rounds wear on, this size difference will show.

Kovalev for me he looked good vs yarde I think his jab will be the key here canelo is just jumping up to much against a very good boxer.

Easy win for Canelo. Kov is shot and, if rumours are to be believed, is no longer living the life.

Linford Christie would still look good at a school sports day.

Between Alvarez II and Yarde I thought Kov lost only 2 rounds, granted he did almost get stopped in one of them lol. He's still got something. How sure are we that Canelo's power, which guys usually stand up to at least till late anyway, carries up two divisions (3 if we go back a couple years ago!)?

He is not shot, that is fornicating obvious to anybody wish a set of eyes.

As for living the life, so what - Carlos Monzon smoked 40 fags a day, some people have the constitution to get away with it.

Sure, Yarde hurt him in one of the rounds, and he did look out of it, but Yarde is a big puncher, it happens.

Canelo's punches won't carry any authority at LHW, and he will be getting hit by a far bigger opponent than ever before.

They will probably try and find a way to delay the fight now, I doubt they will be confident.

If the fight happens in the next 6-12 months, Kovalev all the way for me.

His power won't carry, he's hardly a knockout artist at 147,. against genuine 147 pounders, so I can't see him being able to seriously bother Kovalev.

And if people do think he'll easily beat up Kov, do they think he beats the other LHW champs as well? How far could Canelo go at a high level? Cruiser?

I'd slightly favorites Canelo to get it done. But one of the betting sights was giving +450 on kov witch I think is a bit much.

Kovalev for me. All the physical advantages and power. The kudos for beating Canelo will be a big motivator for Kovalev too.

Hell his punches haven't carried a hell of a lot of authority at Middleweight. He ain't stopping people there either.

If this happens, and Kovalev is a 4 to 1 underdog, the bookies are out of their goddamn minds. That'll change quick I'm sure.

Precisely my point, he simply isn't a puncher at 160 and above, not against top flight competition.

Yarde hit him with everything but the kitchen sink, and still didn't put him over, Canelo won't be able to hurt him.

The risk is that if Canelo manages to finish the fight, we get another shocking decision.

Won't be shocking. It'll be expected going in that Kovalev needs to either win by KO or absolute undeniable domination with at least a knockdown, and having seriously hurt Canelo a few times. If it's just two guys jabbing, and jocking for position all fight, even if Kovalev always does the better work, he'll lose.

By shocking, I mean shockingly poor.

Yes, Canleo will only need to land 3-4 decent shots a round, and he will be cruising to victory, if Kovalev isn't outlanding him 3-1.

I'd have to think about it, but off hand, no. I think had Yarde gone to the body as a fight plan, he'd have stopped him.

I can see this being a repeat of the early middleweight fights Alvarez had.

Catch weight of 170 (but still for the title)

Alvarez to survive 12 rounds and get the decision.

Agree with you mate. For all of Kovalevs strong points he's got a big weakness in that he can't take it to the body. Canelos body work is exceptional and the power don't have to Carry up when your looking to stop him to the body

Why would it be different to a head shot in terms of power moving up?

I wasn't in on the earlier convo about Canelo leaving his power behind in the lower weight classes.

If it’s a light HW and Kov can come in at what ever weight he wants he’ll win, but no doubt Canelo will have either catch weight or rehydration clauses put in.
