Undefeated super middle prospect Money Powell IV faces a tough test this Saturday when he fights Vaughn Alexander (14-3) on the FOX undercard of Erislandy Lara-Ramon Alvarez. Alexander (older brother of ex-world champ Devon Alexander) was a highly-touted ex-amateur standout with a 5-0 record when he was sentenced to prison for armed robbery back in 2004. He returned to the ring after 11 years behind bars and his last 2 losses were to unbeaten fighters Anthony Sims Jr and Janibek Alimkhanuly. Here's video of Vaughn's hard-fought 8-round split decision loss to Alimkhanuly, a 2016 Olympian and 2013 World Championships gold medalist from Kazakhstan, who is still unbeaten as a pro.

It's a good step for sure. Though I watched that fight and no idea how Alexander was up on a card , he won 2 rounds at best.

Powell is a legit prospect but he is nowhere near the level of Alimkhanuly, who has been one of the most impressive fighters to emerge from the 2016 Olympics so far. Alexander is actually a risky matchup for Powell and this is a winnable fight for Alexander.
Win or lose, it will be a good learning experience for Money Powell IV!!

Anyone see the fight?

I did not like this step up in class so soon. Powell is only 21 years old and should not have faced an opponent of Alexanders caliber for at least 3 more fights., Let's be frank, this sport is about good match making, and Money's "team" rushed him along instead of looking out for his best interests.

Like AJ, we'll see how he comes back from this. I was truly disappointed. Chuck you may be right. Maybe too much too soon.chuck9788 wrote: ↑02 Sep 2019, 19:44I did not like this step up in class so soon. I said it would be a very risky fight for Money and a winnable fight for Alexander, who has become a tough gatekeeper for young prospects.chuck9788 wrote: ↑02 Sep 2019, 19:44I did not like this step up in class so soon.
