Booky odds make the Vityaz man a small favorite:

Alexander Povetkin -165
Hughie Fury +135

If Povetkin isn't declined or rusted after a year off, he should outfight Hughie confidently.

Hughie Fury fought Joseph Parker only five days after his 23rd birthday.

A little over a month after his 24th birthday, Fury faced Kubrat Pulev.

The young heavyweight prospect gave a good account of himself in both of those bouts.

Hughie will still only be 24 years of age by the time he steps foot inside the ring against Alexander Povetkin.

Anthony Joshua didn’t turn pro until a few days prior to his 24th birthday. Deontay Wilder was about the same age as AJ when he made his pro debut.

Is there another 24-year-old heavyweight fighter competing today that will/has faced as many top-tier world-rated operators that Hughie fought, such as the likes Parker, Pulev and Povetkin?

Alexander Povetkin has only won one fight in the last eighteen months, which is when he was badly hurt by the UK domestic level fighter known as David Price. The Russian will also be only a couple of days away from his 40th birthday by the time he faces Fury.

I’m going to go out on a limb here, by boldly proclaiming that the likelihood of an upset being scored in the Povetkin-Fury bout is pretty significant.

Only a fool would completely dismiss Hughie’s ability to score the upset on his own home soil.

Even though the Russian deserves to be the betting favourite, a Povetkin victory this weekend is far from guaranteed!

I don't completely dismiss it, but I highly doubt Hughie can pull this out.

H Fury can win a fencing comp, if the Judges score it in such a manner rather than how they scored it in the Parker bout - where they favored the aggressor.

You'd hope Povetkin has done his cardio - it will be a long night trying to pin down this man.

H Fury is very young as EO has pointed out - which makes things even more disappointing. A young man, who should be peaking with aggression and testosterone is reduced to a running laps backwards. I don't believe he has that fighters spirit.

Hughie's only hope is to keep moving on his feet, very quickly, while jabbing Povetkin from long range. Hughie can't afford to allow Povetkin to score with those sweeping left-hooks, overhand rights, and body punches. I seriously doubt Hughie's ability to withstand any serious punishment from Povetkin. IMO Hughie has a vulnerable chin, or he's mentally fragile. I say that because he got gun shy awfully easily against Parker and Pulev.

But will Povetkin be able to catch Fury with shots, and bull his way inside? Hughie has very fast feet, and his left-jab is long and lightning quick. If Povetkin can't keep up with Hughie's foot speed, then Hughie has a great shot at winning. On the other hand, if Povetkin manages to get close enough to swarm Hughie with a hailstorm of hooks and other blows, then I believe Hughie will lose his will to win, and from that point forward, will just fight to survive.

Another factor here is that Hughie may be given permission by the hometown referee to hug and clinch as much as he wants. See the way Hughie constantly tied up Sam Peter? Povetkin's style is that sort that makes him open to the hug-grab-clinchfest response by his opponents. That tactic by Hughie could be a factor.

And how much will Povetkin bring to the ring on Saturday given that he's coming back from a one year layoff? It's an open question as to how the ring rust will affect him. Povetkin didn't look so hot against Rudenko, a fight he took after a long layoff.

I don't think Hughie's power will count for anything in this fight. Hughie's not a big puncher, and Povetkin's got a brick chin. Therefore, Hughie will not be able to get the respect from Povetkin that AJ (who's a big banger) obtained. I don't think Povetkin's debacle against AJ tells us much about how he'll do against Hughie.

Then there's the issue of Hughie's eyebrows. That cut he suffered against Pulev was pretty evil. That kind of wound may leave scar tissue that opens up again when it gets banged. It was Hughie's left eyebrow that busted open against Pulev. Povetkin is an expert at swinging vicious left-hooks at opponent's eyes.

So, we have a lot of variables here. A lot of questions.

What's the word (name) for running about until your opponent tires out?
I know what rope-a-dope is.
If there isn't a name for it, Hughie should claim it

This is an important question.
Let's narrow it down.

It's not fighting, nor is it boxing. It involves running, but also feints and a distracting jab - so not exactly running.
I've seen it before but normally during the closing rounds, when a fighter has racked up enough that they can coast to a victory. It's not this as the 'coasting' occurs from the opening.

mmmm - not an easy answer.

I've come up with a word. Shading - according to the urban dictionary on google, to avoid obligations by hiding.

Now I appreciate he's not hiding he's running. But I thought because Hughie has shades of Ali, this name would suit.

Ha!
I like it.
Yes I know what you mean about coasting the later rounds on top of a decisive points tally. Just look at rounds 11/12Mayweather/Canelo
Bloody annoying if you ask me, especially on a PPV. I pay good money to watch a fight not dancing with the stars, I leave that to the Mrs.

Povetkin was beating up Joshua in the early rounds until he ran out of gas. If he's in top shape he'll easily beat H. Fury.

It's a fascinating fight because of the age and body frame differences. No-one can really predict with confidence what will happen.

- Will Fury get scared and run?
- Will Potvekin gas?
- Will Potvekin suddenly age as many older fighters do
- Will Fury reveal a fragile chin?

You can make an opinion on any of these, but no-one really knows for sure. All options are on the table.

question 1: yeah, no doubt - the last 3 questions are difficult to answer, but this one is pretty easy. i am 100% sure actually that he will.
question 2: i don't think so, he gassed vs Joshua due to the body punches AJ landed + who know how really gassed he was, to some degree yeah, but maybe he wasn't that much gassed out and AJ just landed and hurt him.
question 3: i don't know - my guess is that he will look just as good as vs AJ
question 4: i predict that Povetkin will knock him out, but can't say that i am 100% sure. anyway can't see any other scenario - Povetkin by KO or UD.

I don't think it's a matter of Povetkin having gassed against AJ. I think the issue is that the power-punching AJ drained Povetkin's energy with devastating punches. So, Povetkin got beaten down, as opposed to losing his wind.

Fortunately for Povetkin, Hughie isn't a puncher.

Joshua wasn't landing much good stuff on Povetkin. He just timed his money punch well.

I'll go with Hughie, but I thought Hughie could beat Pulev.
I do think Hughie should have gotten the nod against Parker.

The big question is how good is Povetkin now. At his peak he was in a whole different league than Hughie.

I don't see any way possible that Hughie wins.
Povetkin will break him down methodically winning a clear unanimous decision or late stoppage

Hughie is just not world level.
I don't care how old Povetkin is. He is 10 times the fighter that Hughie is

So you sincerely feel that Povetkin will beat Fury within a couple of rounds?

If what you’ve claimed is a sincere opinion, then that’s essentially what you’re saying.

No way Povetkin will have the speed and timing in the early rounds to take Hughie down. Hughie will do just fine against Povetkin. Doubt he will throw enough for a win, but he's not easy to hit and Povetkin will tire late, so I'll call this a draw as the fight is in Greenwich.
