A fighter should focus their efforts on attaining their physical athletic prime rather than focussing their efforts on achieving a certain aesthetic appearance.
Ruiz Jr. seemed far more overweight during his teenage years, so perhaps there are limits to how “ripped” he’s capable of becoming, and I’m guessing that it would be impossible for him to achieve a physique like the prime versions of Kenny Norton or Evander Holyfield.
To be fair, Andy Ruiz Jr’s engine seemed vastly superior than the bodybuilding physique of AJ... and that fact shouldn’t be underappreciated.
I wasn't talking about aesthetics, in fact it's odd that you took that as the point I was making.
The point is that his stamina and agility would surely improve if he wasn't 20 pounds overweight.
Maybe it would but maybe it wouldn’t. Ruiz Jr’s physique is clearly misleading.
Superficially-speaking, you’re absolutely right, but in my mind, heavyweights should train as hard as they can, eat healthily and recover greatly through sleep, rather than focussing on the numbers displayed by the weighing scales.
I’m sure that if Ruiz Jr. does that, then he’ll likely lose a certain amount of excess weight, but perhaps he’s one of those misleadingly athletic people that are destined to always carry a certain amount of timber.
