Joe Gallagher not happy with Eddie Hearn over Callum Smith

Gallagher Warns Hearn: Callum Smith Has One Foot Out The Door

By Elliot Foster

Joe Gallagher has poured water on the idea of a potential showdown between Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders.

The manager and trainer of the WBA Super, WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine world super middleweight champion recently returned from Mexico after guiding Smith’s older brother Liam to a seventh-round stoppage win against Mario Alberto Lozano.

Smith has been out of the ring since making the first defence of his titles at Madison Square Garden in New York back in June when he stopped Hassan N’Dam, dropping him thrice inside three rounds.

But he is said to have grown frustrated by the lack of opportunities and confirmed fight dates.

Easy to see where he's coming from, Callum could easily be the best in the world, with good potential to win titles at 175 too, yet he's totally stagnated since stopping Groves.

I feel like BJS might be too small.

Agree, and I'd enjoy him getting beaten up, that's mainly why I'd want to see it

I wouldn’t mind it mainly to see Saunders get beat up a bit! Callum would give him a going over imo

Trouble is he earned that movie star money from the WBSS so he’s gonna want money that can’t be delivered unless he fights maybe Canelo.

I reckon he could be fit and focused and would still lose. Callum's way bigger and a good good fighter in his own right, with much sharper hands than a guy like Lemieux. Also the fitness thing has become a bit of an exccuse. Pretty much every time BJS doesn't look good it's just blamed on him underperforming for various reasons and treated like it's not the 'real' BJS.

Yeah. Smith isn't just big. He's big but skilled with it.

Eddie dosent hold the cards at SMW. Sure, he recently signed BJS, who does not fill seats, and IMO, would be a backwards step in Callum's career.

If moving away from Hearn gets Smith in the ring against meaningful opponents, I'm all for it. I want to see more of him. The guy is huge and has skills. He's getting somewhat wasted IMHO.

Not sure he wants to waste his time with BJS given how often he pulls out of fights.

Both the other champions are with Haymon and it is well known that Haymon fighters get paid well.

Also, given Haymon's deal with ITV he could even fight Eubank Jr on PPV, maybe even at Anfield.

It seems like a no brainer for him to look elsewhere, even if it is only a ploy to get Hearn to start delivering better fights for him.

much more opportunities in the 168lb division over at PBC, Saunders can't be trusted, how many times has he pulled out of fights? Callum should take Al's money for the Benevidez or Plant fights

Why doesn't Callum move up to heavyweight and fight his brother?

That's got me thinking- has there been any instances of brothers/close family members fighting each other in the pro ranks?

100%

BJS has become overrated based on the Lemiux fight. Smith is the man to give Canelo serious trouble if the Ginger one fancies it

To be fair to Hearn, both Dirrell and Plant are with PBC, and the remainder of the SM division has no standout names in it. People talk of Canelo, Golovkin etc, but they operate in a different weight division, Smith will be of very little interest to them.

He would be better of trying to cut a deal with PBC. He can beat both Dirrell and Plant so if he gets those fights drawn into a sign on contract, he has a great opportunity to unify the SM division. If he goes any other route, he will be left to wollow in the mud for a long time to come.

Do you mean the Dutchman Harry Duiven Jr knocking out a late replacement to save the family promotion - the replacement being his dad?

PBC rarely match their fighters against each other when it makes most sense.

May aswell just retire then. 9 months after Groves fights a chinny middleweight.

What's the point why should fans care.
